Opinion: Why the DAREDEVIL Movie is Better than the DAREDEVIL TV Show

Daredevil Movie Opinion - cover image

Hello! You’re here! Welcome to this hot take. I know there’s multiple opinions on this topic, and I’m in the very tiny minority. If you listened to our Daredevil Podcast, you got a small glimpse of this argument, and if you haven’t listened, you should! But here goes nothing! Why the Daredevil movie is better than the Daredevil TV show.
Ah Daredevil. Highly controversial, this movie isn’t one of the best. But it isn’t one of the worst. I really enjoyed Jennifer Gardner‘s portrayal of Elektra, she gave the role some sexiness, bad***ery that it desperately needed. The plot was terrible, but I actually enjoyed the script. Writing can be good without the story or plot being good ok! People laugh at me when I say I thought Ben Affleck was good in the role, but I really thought he did the best he could with what he had! A good actor can come outside of a plot, outside of a script, and make the role their own. And I believe Affleck did that.
This movie gets a lot of hate, but it really shouldn’t. It made the move to capitalize off of the hype surrounding X-Men, and it gave it its best shot.

Now the other Daredevil. Seasons 1 and 2 suck monkey butt to me. There’s too much focus on too many different characters, the plot sucks, the villain isn’t interesting, Foggy Nelson is a terrible friend and a terrible partner, I don’t know why we care about Karen Page, she’s a drag, and she doesn’t stand up on the plot line. Matt Murdock is a terrible lawyer, and is more of a background character than anything else, along with Daredevil. There’s a lot of focus on the villain, and the supporting cast of Matt Murdock/Daredevil, and it needs to be minimized. We don’t know why Daredevil fights, his motivation sucks.
Ultimately I enjoy the story in the movie, better than the TV show. I get more invested in the movie’s plot and characters than I do the TV show’s plot. The promotional material for Daredevil season 3 has been very good though, so I might give it a shot and just skip watching the last half of season 2… cause I didn’t watch that…
