GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Production Put on Hold

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was originally set to begin production early next year for a 2020 release. But then, the James Gunn debacle happened. Fans have speculated about the film’s future, whether they delay the movie, rehire Gunn, or cancel it altogether. Now, a new report sheds light on Marvel’s new plans.

As of right now, pre-production for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been delayed indefinitely. Crew members who were prepping for pre-production are now being dismissed, and they will move on to new projects. However, this is said to be a temporary move, as Disney and Marvel look for a new filmmaker to take over.

One source says that Thor: Ragnarok director Taikia Waititi recently met with Marvel, but it’s unclear if it was for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 or another movie. Waititi has emerged as the fan-favorite to take over the threequel. It makes sense, given how Ragnarok‘s style was very similar to Guardians. But, whether or not that happens is (obviously) unclear.

This almost definitely confirms that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 won’t be out in 2020, so Marvel will have to fill its void with another movie. We’ll likely know that year’s slate after Avengers 4 releases next year. Stay tuned for more as we have it.
