SONG REVIEW: "Venom" by Eminem

It isn't too often that Marshall Mathers drops a new sick beat. But these are uncommon times, and uncommon times call for uncommon measures.

Take Sony's latest motion picture: Venom, starring Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road, Star Trek: Nemesis) and Riz Ahmed ("Rogue One? Rogue One."). Venom is a pretty good what if: What if Venom existed separate from Spider-Man? What if Venom was sorta-kinda-maybe in the MCU but also definitely-maybe-sorta not?

And today, we have another what if to ask: What if Eminem contributed a song to a superhero film?

Wonder no more, ladies and gents, for Slim Shady's "Venom" has arrived.

"Venom" is a pretty good movie tie-in. Definitely not family friendly, which raises some questions about the upcoming film's rating. Nevertheless, the beat really puts you in Eddie Brock's head and tried to be more than a generic tie-in. Sure, Marshall rhymes "Venom" with "em" a lot, but is that really worse …

BLACK ADAM Producer Offers Script Update, Teases an Edgy DC Movie

Last we heard on the Black Adam movie, star Dwayne Johnson suggested that production could begin in late 2019. Scribe Adam Sztykiel has been working on the screenplay, while a director hasn't been hired yet. Now, we have a new update from a producer.

Seven Bucks Productions president Hiram Garcia tells Collider that Black Adam is "definitely" happening, and the scripting process is going well. He reaffirms that Black Adam was the character that Johnson was sold on years ago, while the plan to split this and Shazam! into two movies allow them to properly develop both characters.

Garcia goes on to hype up the movie for fans, promising that the wait will be worth it. "So where we are now with Black Adam is we just got our latest script. We’re doing some revisions on it. We’re extremely excited about it, the studio’s very excited about it. And I’m telling you man, as a comic book fan, when this thing comes out, it is going to be amazing. This is the fanboy in me talkin…

Matt Smith Joins STAR WARS EPISODE IX in Key Role

Star Wars Episode IX is still filling out its cast, as production is underway in the UK. Its latest addition is someone with plenty of geek cred.

Matt Smith, aka the Eleventh Doctor from Doctor Who, has joined the cast of Episode IX in what's said to be a "key" role. And, unsurprisingly, that's all we know about his character. It's unclear if he will be a good guy or a villain. We'll just have to wait and see.

In addition to Doctor Who, Smith was in 2015's Terminator Genisys, while he is currently nominated for an Emmy for his supporting role on Netflix's The Crown.

Stay tuned for more news as we have it. Star Wars Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.

Alec Baldwin Has Already Exited JOKER Movie

Two days ago, it was reported that Alec Baldwin had joined the cast of Warner Bros.' Joker movie as Thomas Wayne, aka the father of Bruce Wayne/Batman. It was a fun thought while it lasted, however.

Baldwin tells USA Today that he has dropped out of Joker, citing a scheduling conflict. "I'm no longer doing that movie. I'm sure there are 25 guys who can play that part." Scheduling conflicts happen all the time, but it's odd how Baldwin cites it just two days after his casting was first reported. Wouldn't something like that be decided upon beforehand?

Thomas Wayne is reportedly being depicted as a "cheesy and tanned" businessman, compared to 1980s Donald Trump. This is different from Wayne's usual portrayal, and it will be interesting to see who they get to play him now.

Joker has been assembling a truly impressive cast for a comic book film. Joaquin Phoenix is set to play the future Clown Prince of Crime, with Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and…

DC TV News Bits: Rag Doll Comes to THE FLASH; Green Arrow & Black Canary Praise Arsenal

The Flash has a new villain coming to Central City and he's bound to have the team in knots. According to TV Insider, America's Got Talent alum Troy James has been cast to play Rag Doll. In the comics, Peter Merkel (Rag Doll) has superhuman flexibility. James is a Contortionist and is the perfect person to play Rag Doll. It will be fun to see what he adds to The Flash.

Moving on to Arrow, you'll never guess what's up with Roy Harper this season. That's what Stephen Amell thinks at least. At Comic-Con International, Amell spoke about having Colton Haynes back. It’s fantastic, man! I love Colton! So having him back is terrific, and — you know — his stuff this season? I could give you an hour to guess, to pontificate as to what he’s going to be doing, and none of you would get it. It’s amazing. What is Amell hinting at? What can Roy's role possibly be? Is he a member of the League of Assassins, is he a clone ala Young Justice, or is it something else entirely?

JOKER Casts Alec Baldwin as Thomas Wayne

Warner Bros.' Joker movie has been assembling a truly impressive cast for a comic book film. Joaquin Phoenix is set to play the future Clown Prince of Crime, with Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and more filling out the supporting cast. Now, the latest casting confirms the presence of a key DC Comics character.

Actor Alec Baldwin is joining Joker as none other than Thomas Wayne, aka Bruce Wayne/Batman's father. Traditionally, Wayne is depicted as a physician and philanthropist. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, this movie will portray Wayne as a "cheesy and tanned" businessman, a la 1980s Donald Trump. Given Baldwin's performance as Trump on SNL, this move makes some sense.

Thomas Wayne has been portrayed many times in live action, specifically in every cinematic incarnation of Batman. And he dies in every single one of them, sparking the origin of the Dark Knight. Considering how much Joker is expected to divert from canon, that may not happen here. Expect …

Movie News Bits: Anime Goes Live Action, Casting Updates and More

Welcome back to Movie News Bits. In today's installment, we have movement on a hotly anticipated sequel, casting updates for some movies, the potential franchise future of Venom, and more.

Despite mixed reviews, Death Note was a pretty big success for Netflix. So, the company has confirmed that a sequel, simply titled Death Note 2, is in the works. Greg Russo is writing the script. No word on whether director Adam Wingard will return, or anything on a release date. One thing is for sure: Landon is very happy about the news. (Source: The Hollywood Reporter)Star Wars Episode IX is now in production, but the film is still adding to its cast. Actor Dominic Monaghan (Lost) is re-teaming with director J.J. Abrams on the sequel, which will close out the sequel trilogy and the Skywalker saga. Monaghan said this about the news. "The galaxy far far away has had almost as much influence as the one I live in, so I am delighted to be involved." Of course, there's no word on who h…

Oscar Isaac Reportedly Met for a Role in THE BATMAN

We've heard a lot of rumors surrounding The Batman in recent months. Most recently, director Matt Reeves confirmed that production could begin in the spring or summer of next year, while the script will be submitted soon. In the meantime, we have a new casting rumor to add to the list.

The GWWis back with another DC movie scoop. This time, the site says that actor Oscar Isaac recently met for a role in The Batman. While an offer hasn't been made, Isaac is said to be "very interested" in joining the movie. Isaac is best known for playing Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, as well as movies like Ex Machina and X-Men: Apocalypse. So, he has plenty of geek cred already.

As for who he could play, that's not clear just yet. Apparently, Warner Bros. wants an A-list actor to play the villain. The Penguin and Harvey Dent have been rumored for the film. While there's a chance of Isaac maybe playing Batman himself, the most recent report said that Reeves is se…

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP Soars Past Original Film After Major Overseas Boost

Ant-Man and The Wasp has been out domestically for nearly two months, but its international rollout has been a lot slower. This week, the Marvel sequel finally hit theaters in China, and it's already off to a great start.

This weekend, Ant-Man and The Wasp grossed an estimated $71.2 million overseas, fueled by a $68 million opening in China. This gives it the fourth biggest Marvel Studios opening in the nation, behind Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, and Captain America: Civil War. This brings the film's worldwide total to a whopping $544.1 million, pushing past the first Ant-Man's $519.3 million.

Ant-Man and The Wasp's final market will be Japan, where it opens on August 31st. That will surely continue the film's big overseas boost, giving its theatrical run more life before it arrives on home video later this year.

Stay tuned for more news as we have it.

Reed Morano Reportedly at the Top of SUPERGIRL Director Shortlist

It was recently revealed that a Supergirl movie is in development at Warner Bros. and DC Films. Writer Oren Uziel is working on the script, while the studio is said to be keen on hiring a female director. Now, it looks like we know who the studio wants to take the helm.

According to The GWW, filmmaker Reed Morano is at the top of WB's shortlist to direct Supergirl. No offer has been made, and it's unclear if any meetings have happened yet. Other names on the list are currently unknown. But if the studio is already looking at directors, then they're probably planning on getting this movie out sooner than later.

Morano's credits include Meadowland, I Think We're Alone Now, and a few episodes of The Handmaid's Tale. For the latter, Morano won an Emmy and a Director's Guild of America (DGA) Award, making her the first woman director to win both awards for a drama series.

Hopefully, we'll have more Supergirl news to share soon. Stay tuned.

FEATURE: Six Marvel and STAR WARS Projects We Want to See on Disney's Streaming Service

Next year, Disney is launching its very own streaming service. It will include your favorite Disney movies, plus content from the worlds of Marvel and Star Wars. Among the exclusive projects in development are Jon Favreau's Star Wars series, an unnamed Marvel show, and a new season of The Clone Wars.

Of course, it's not gonna stop there. Disney will surely look to mine these franchises more and more for exclusive content, whether it's as a movie or a show. Here, we list six projects that we want to see on Disney's streaming service.

Marvel's Most Wanted
Marvel's Most Wanted was an intended spinoff for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. focusing on Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter. ABC ultimately passed on the pilot, and while the network still controls any future release, there hasn't been any movement. It would be ideal for ABC to let the project move to Disney's service. Or, they could even rework the concept into either a Mockingbird solo series or another team. Basi…

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Production Put on Hold

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was originally set to begin production early next year for a 2020 release. But then, the James Gunn debacle happened. Fans have speculated about the film's future, whether they delay the movie, rehire Gunn, or cancel it altogether. Now, a new report sheds light on Marvel's new plans.

As of right now, pre-production for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been delayed indefinitely. Crew members who were prepping for pre-production are now being dismissed, and they will move on to new projects. However, this is said to be a temporary move, as Disney and Marvel look for a new filmmaker to take over.

One source says that Thor: Ragnarok director Taikia Waititi recently met with Marvel, but it's unclear if it was for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 or another movie. Waititi has emerged as the fan-favorite to take over the threequel. It makes sense, given how Ragnarok's style was very similar to Guardians. But, whether or not that happens is (obvi…

JESSICA JONES Showrunner Leaves The Series

Jessica Jones has lost its showrunner. Melissa Rosenberg will be leaving the series after Warner Bros. offered her an eight figure deal. Under her multi-year deal Rosenberg will help create new television series for WB. The third season of Jessica Jones will be her last.

All of my attention remains with the extraordinary cast, writers and production team of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, until the completion of season three, Rosenberg said. As production on Jessica Jones season 3 has already begun.

Rosenberg went on to say: It continues to be a career highlight working with my partners at Marvel Television and Netflix. We have so many talented storytellers in every area of this show, who I’m honored to call friends and collaborators. As I look ahead af…

New Details on Alfred Prequel Series - PENNYWORTH

If you didn't know, everyone is getting a television series. The latest DC character to grace the silver screen is everyone's favorite butler, Alfred Pennyworth. Now, Pennyworth is not a Gotham spin-off, so don't expect Sean Pertwee to play the titular character. But thanks to the good people at That Hashtag Show, we have some new information on the series.

I always imagined Pennyworth being DC's Downton Abbey, but alas, it won't be. The series will take place in London starring an Alfred in his mid 20s. Hashtag Show says: (Pennyworth) is a former SAS member who ran highly classified missions for the British government, Alfred is trying to reconcile the kind-hearted boy he once was with the ruthless killer he was forced to become. The series will also focus on Alfred struggling with his father's wishes of becoming the next Pennyworth to serve the Wayne family.

Thomas Wayne will play a major role in the series as we becomes a close friend of Alfred. The two wil…

JOKER Gets a Composer; Joaquin Phoenix Not Worried About Fan Pressure

We have a couple news tidbits for Warner Bros.' Joker movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix as the future Clown Prince of Crime.

First up, composer Hildur Gudnadottir has been hired to score Joker. Gudnadottir previously scored this summer's Sicario: Day of the Soldado. She also works on the Icelandic show Trapped. This news comes after DC's other 2019 movies, Shazam!and Wonder Woman 1984, recruited composers.

In other news, Joaquin Phoenix took the time to talk with IndieWire about the inevitable fan pressure of playing The Joker. Fortunately, he's not too worried about it. "I could care less. I don’t really think that much about what people think. Who cares, who cares? My approach to every movie is the same. What I’m interested in is the filmmaker and the idea of the character."

There are few comic book roles more widely publicized than Joker. Heath Ledger's portrayal in The Dark Knight won him a posthumous Oscar, while Jared Leto's performance in Suicid…

Hans Zimmer to Score WONDER WOMAN 1984

With Wonder Woman composer Rupert Gregson-Williams moving on to Aquaman, the sequel Wonder Woman 1984 has recruited a new composer. And it marks the return of a legend to DC Films.

Hans Zimmer has signed on to score Wonder Woman 1984. This serves as the composer's latest entry into the comic book movie genre. He previously worked on The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. On the latter film, he worked with Junkie XL on creating Wonder Woman's now iconic theme. Zimmer is also working on next year's X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Back in 2016, shortly after Batman v Superman came out, Zimmer said that he was "retired" from superhero films. A year later, however, he clarified that he'd be open to returning, so long as there was an "amazing" script. Since then, he signed on to do Dark Phoenix and now Wonder Woman 1984.

Zimmer has made some truly incredible contributions to the superhero genre, and …

We'll learn the role he played in Killer Frost's creation, and see how much Dr. Carla Tannhauser (Caitlin's mother) had a part in the powers as well. It seems both parents will have a part to play this season, so we'll have to see if Caitlin gets her other half back.

We all know Batwoman is coming to The CW this year, and she'll be played by Ruby Rose! Batwoman will make her debut in this year's Arrowverse crossover. With such an important character debuting, and with the crossover from last year, one may wonder how The CW can do it all?

Well Stephen Amell has this to say: "Because we went so big with the crossover last year, you can't go bigger. So you have to go more about the characters and the story."

So it sounds like we're sticking small this year…

The CW Announces Dates for 2018's Arrowverse Crossover

This year's Arrowverse crossover will be a bit smaller than usual. The event will introduce Ruby Rose's Batwoman into the universe, with plans to spin her off into her own series. The CW has announced that the Batwoman crossover will begin on Sunday, December 9th at 8 PM EST with a new episode of The Flash. Marvel's RUNAWAYS Will Show MCU Connections in Season 2

The Runaways will be returning for a second season on Hulu December 21st. The series has always felt like its own standalone story. So much so, you'd never know that it was set in the same world as Thor: Ragnarok or Avengers: Infinity War. Well, after the events of the first season, we will finally see that connection.

During a set visit earlier this month, showrunners Josh Schwartz and Samantha Savage talked about referencing the larger MCU in the second season. We'll have a reference, late in the season, that will probably be our first real breadcrumb that connects us to the MCU in some way, said Savage. Will it reference the events of the first Avengers film like the Netflix shows or will it reference more current events like Wakanda going public or the snap from Avengers: Infinity War? We likely won't know until the show's release on December 21st.

We also have a few more details on season 2. We'll be spoiling events from the first season so if you haven't …

DCTV News Bits: TITANS Casts Dove (Again), Bane's Dad Comes to GOTHAM, and ARROW Gets Gritty

Today we've got some news on Titans casting, Gotham using yet another Batman villain, and Arrow doing even more crazy stunts. There's a lot to unpack so let's get into it.

According to our friends at Super Bro Movies, Elliot Knight (Life Sentence) has been cast as Don Hall on Titans. Knight will appear in flashbacks as the original Dove. Don Hall and Hank Hall (Alan Ritchson) are brothers and the original Hawk and Dove. It'll be interesting to see how they use the flashbacks to flesh out Ritchson's character. Minka Kellyis playing the present day Dove. Hopefully we get to see the backstory behind all of this.

Gotham is going all out for its final season. That Hashtag Show is reporting that Bane's father will make an appearance next season. They are casting a character by the name of  Eduardo Dorrance who is the father of Bane. They want Dorrance to be in his mid 30s to early 40s. What role will he play in the final season? We don't know yet but it's cer…

Movie News Bits: A Little Bit of Everything

Welcome to the latest round of Movie News Bits. Today, we have some updates on a couple Marvel-based movies, a DC movie update, and some tidbits on the animation front.

It was recently revealed that a new Supergirl movie is in the works at Warner Bros. and DC Films. Now, we know what type of director they're looking for. Unsurprisingly, the studio is keen on hiring a female filmmaker to tackle this project. This comes after Ava DuVernay on New Gods, Cathy Yan on Birds of Prey, and Patty Jenkins on the Wonder Woman franchise. The studio is also developing Batgirl, but that doesn't have a director. Needless to say, it looks like WB/DC are emphasizing on women to boost the franchise. (Source: Deadline)Marvel has been very quiet on plans for its post-Avengers 4 slate, but now, we know when one movie will begin shooting. A new report says that Marvel is planning to start filming a new movie in June 2019 in the United Kingdom. The three options are said to be Black Widow,Doctor Stra…
