BIRDS OF PREY Star Margot Robbie Confirms January Start Date, R-Rating and Smaller Budget

After putting several Harley Quinn-centric projects into development, DC Films is prioritizing Birds of Prey as the next installment. Star and producer Margot Robbie talked before about an R-rating, while a January production start date was rumored. Now, they’re confirmed.

Speaking with Flickering Myth, Margot Robbie confirmed that Birds of Prey will begin shooting in January. Along with reaffirming an R-rating – a first for DC Films – she revealed that its budget will be “much” smaller than other recent movies. So, it’ll be different from Suicide Squad and other DC installments.

As for where the film will be shooting, Omega Underground has some intel. According to the site, Warner Bros. may be eyeing Atlanta/Savannah, GA and Los Angeles, CA as potential shooting locations.

Cathy Yan is directing Birds of Prey, which will team Harley up with several other female DC characters. Batgirl and Huntress are among those rumored for the movie. With production set for the beginning of the year, this likely puts the film on track for a 2020 release.
