SUPERGIRL Season 4 Will Have More Brainiac-5, Less Winn

We have a couple casting shifts for Supergirl‘s fourth season, ahead of Monday’s finale. One fan-favorite character has been promoted, while we’ll be seeing less of an original character.

First up, The CW has announced (via TV Line) that Jesse Rath’s Brainiac-5 will be a series regular next season. “Brainy” is a member of the Legion of Superheroes, alongside Mon-El and Imra. He has been an ally to Kara and the team, and he will return again in the finale.

Executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller had this to say about Brainy’s promotion.  “We love the character of Brainiac-5 and can’t imagine anyone but Jesse Rath in the role. He brings such fun, heart and brilliance to Brainy, and we’re so excited he’s joining the cast as a series regular for season 4. We have a lot of great Brainy stories to tell.”

Unfortunately, this news comes as an original character has been downgraded. TV Line has also confirmed that Jeremy Jordan, who plays Winslow “Winn” Schott Jr., will no longer be a series regular for season four. He will instead be a recurring character. While no reason was given for the decreased role, it will be explained in the finale.
Rovner and Queller gave another statement, promising that Winn will still play a role on the show. “We love Jeremy, and even though he’s [not going to be around full-time], we’re not saying goodbye to Winn at all. We’re already breaking big stories for him right now for the fall, and I think the fans will be excited to see what he has coming up.”

Winn has been a regular character on Supergirl since the pilot, so his smaller role will certainly be noticeable. Still, it’s great that he will remain part of the show for the foreseeable future.
Stay tuned for more as we have it. Supergirl‘s season three finale airs on Monday at 8 PM EST on The CW.
