Fox Renews GOTHAM for Fifth and Final Season

Over the past couple days, Fox has renewed or cancelled several of its shows, in preparation for its Upfronts panel tomorrow. However, one series that wasn't decided on immediately was Gotham. The Batman prequel series is in its fourth season, and it has consistently declined in ratings. This has led to speculation on its future. Now, Fox has made a decision....and it may be bittersweet for fans.

Fox has announced that Gotham will return for a fifth season. However, this will be the final season of the show. The season will wrap up the show's unique origin stories for Gotham City's heroes and villains, while it will particularly focus on Bruce Wayne's transformation into Batman.

An exact episode order wasn't announced, The Hollywood Reporter says that the season will likely run for 13 episodes - a noticeable decrease from the usual 22. And 13 episodes will bring the show to 100 total episodes, which is needed to sell it in syndication. Deadline adds that the show will likely return during midseason; with Fox expected to unveil its fall schedule tomorrow, we should know for sure then.

While Gotham has made distinct creative decisions in adapting Batman lore, the show has maintained a faithful fanbase online. Hopefully, the new season will end the show on a high note.

Stay tuned for more as we have it.
