Disney CEO Teases New Marvel Franchise and More AVENGERS Sequels After 2019

While Avengers: Infinity War and next year’s Avengers 4 are a culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far, there are plans for many more Marvel movies in the future. This week, the head of Disney has offered some teases on what to expect from this future.

During an earnings call (via THR), CEO Bob Iger confirms that Disney and Marvel are planning out movies for at least the next decade, including a “new” franchise. But just because there’s a new franchise doesn’t mean Avengers will end. “I’m guessing we will try our hand at what I’ll call a new franchise beyond Avengers, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t see more Avengers down the road. We just haven’t made any announcements about that.”

Iger elaborates, saying that while Avengers 4 will offer a “significant” ending, they’re not ruling out more movies in the team-up franchise. “Given the popularity of the characters and given the popularity of the franchise, I don’t think people should conclude there will never be another Avengers movie.”

Avengers 4 will mark the last movie in multiple actors’ contracts, such as Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. So, it has been expected that most (if not all) of original Avengers will be retired, with the MCU focusing on new heroes for the next Phase. It’s easy to imagine a new Avengers team with heroes like Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Spider-Man spearheading the future.

And not to mention, Avengers is the biggest moneymaker in the superhero genre. The three films so far have already made more than $4 billion worldwide, with Infinity War still going strong. So, it’s a no brainer for Disney and Marvel to continue this series.

And as for that new franchise? There has been talk about an Eternals movie being the next big thing for Marvel, while there is interest in movies for Black Widow, Nova, and Moon Knight. But, we’ll have to wait and see.

Stay tuned for more as we have it.
