ARROW Star Stephen Amell Teases the Goatee and a New Character in Season 7

[Warning: The Following Contains MAJOR SPOILERS From the Arrow Season 6 Finale.]

So, the season six finale for Arrow really shook things up, in preparation for the show’s seventh season. In exchange for the FBI’s help in defeating Ricardo Diaz, Oliver Queen agreed not only to turn himself in, but to publicly announce that he is the Green Arrow. Whatever secret identity Oliver had is now gone forever. Oliver is now in prison, Quentin Lance is dead, and Diaz is still out there somewhere…albeit with his empire destroyed.

Clearly, Arrow will look very different next season, and now, we have some hints to how. At Motor City Comic-Con (via ComicBook), series star Stephen Amell talks about Oliver’s potential new look for season seven. He confirms that, at long last, Oliver will be wearing his goatee next season. “Just because you’ve been polite, and just because everyone has been so nice to me today, I can break some news for you and let you know that in Season Seven I am going to debut the goatee.”

In the comics, Green Arrow is known for his iconic goatee. Amell has teased off and on about eventually bringing it into the show, and now, it’s happening. With Oliver being in prison for a few months, it’d make sense for his facial hair to grow out. However, Amell cautions that it might not be a permanent thing. Could it just be an Easter egg that’ll go away by the premiere’s end? We’ll have to see.

Amell also confirms that there has been talk about changing the Green Arrow costume, now that his secret identity is no more. However, there is no word on what that new costume will look like. Oh, and Green Arrow’s hat in the comics? Forget about that ever being on the show.

In other news, Amell hints at the arrival of a new character on Arrow next season. And he sounds very excited about it. “We’re also debuting a new character, who, when I heard about it, I just got goosebumps. I’m so excited.” No other hint as to who it is, so it could be anyone. But we know that the season will feature Diaz’s new allies, the Longbow Hunters, while Batwoman is debuting in the crossover. We’ll have to wait and see.

Arrow returns next fall on The CW.
