Andrew Lincoln Leaving THE WALKING DEAD in Season 9

AMC’s The Walking Dead has become notorious for killing off many of its primary characters over its eight-season (and counting) run. So much so, that fans have wondered if Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes, the show’s protagonist, would eventually die. Comic creator Robert Kirkman shed doubt on the idea earlier this year, despite a scene on the show hinting otherwise. However, it looks like Rick will be leaving us sooner than later.

According to Collider, Andrew Lincoln is set to leave The Walking Dead during its ninth season, which premieres this fall. In fact, he’s only signed on to appear in half a dozen episodes. Collider won’t say how Rick will be written out, but it wouldn’t be too surprising if he dies.

With Rick being the face of the show, who will take over as the protagonist? Well, Collider says that AMC is offering “substantial” compensation to Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl Dixon, to take over as the series lead.

We’ll see exactly how this transition will play out. But if Rick does die, then it will further establish The Walking Dead as a show where no one is safe.

Stay tuned for more as we have it.
