Review: THE INFINTY GAUNTLET

Marvel’s Infinity Gauntlet is one of those events where you have no idea what’s going to happen next. The story goes from earth to space to face time face with God himself, and yet it never feels crazy or out of control. It’s gonna be tough breaking this one down but I’m up to the challenge.

We have Thanos, the Mad Titan, a recurring villain of the Avengers gain control of the Infinity Gauntlet, the most powerful weapon in the universe. He wants to impress Death, like the physical embodiment of Death. He believes he can become her lover by inflicting as much death and destruction upon the universe. With a snap of his fingers, half of the galaxy is obliterated. It’s jaw-dropping. Silver Surfer warns Doctor Strange and Wong about the upcoming battle; while Captain America leads what’s left of the Avengers in finding what’s happening to the rest of the world.

We learn about the Infinity Gems and all their power, as well as the effects it has on Thanos’ mind. He took on just about all of earth’s heroes and wiped the floor with them. He also took on the likes of Zeus, Odin, Galactus, and others. There’s a point where I thought they were going to lose this fight, but miracles do happen, and boy was it satisfying. With the help of Adam Warlock, Thanos does lose control. Giving them a chance at survival.

Jim Starlin outdid himself with this story. Taking the entire Marvel Universe and making it fit within this one narrative is remarkable. Illustrators George Perez and Ron Lim teamed up with inkers Josef Rubinstien, Tom Christopher, and Bruce N Solotoff to create an atmosphere that feels like the end of the universe.

It does feel a little dated, but that's to be expected. It has so many twists and iconic moments that you can't help but smile. Infinity Gauntlet is a fantastic read. It has a bit of a slow start, but once it gets going it never stops. The art is phenomenal, and the story is engaging. Thanos’ motivation is pretty weak, and they never flesh it out, but if you’re able to look past that you’ll have a blast.

To celebrate the release of Avengers: Infinity War we'll be giving away 2 digital copies of The Infinity Gauntlet! Simply log into your Amazon account and click the link. It's that simple. Good luck! For more reviews, giveaways, and all things Marvel, stay tuned.
