ABC Boss Weighs In on the Future of AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. and INHUMANS

ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is currently in its fifth season, while the network aired another Marvel show, Inhumans, last fall. Neither show has been officially renewed for next season, but now, ABC’s entertainment chief has addressed the possibility.

Appearing at the Television Critics Association (TCA) tour, Channing Dungey spoke with TV Line and other reporters about the fate of ABC’s Marvel shows. Despite S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s poor ratings this season, Dungey has been impressed with the show’s creativity, which she says is “…the strongest that it’s ever been, and we’ve been really excited about what the producers are talking about for the second half of the season.” However, she is waiting on a sixth season plan from the show’s producers before deciding on a renewal.

As for Inhumans….well, things are looking less hopeful. Dungey says that, while the show hasn’t been officially renewed or canceled yet, it was a disappointment for the network. “It didn’t perform for us at the level that we would have wanted. We haven’t made any official decisions yet but I will say the numbers were less exciting for us than we hoped they would be.” Inhumans received scathing reception from critics and fans, while the ratings were underwhelming. It would be a big surprise if it was ever renewed.
