FEATURE: 5 Reasons to Get Excited for METROPOLIS

Just a short three months ago, I wrote a feature for our 14 Days of Justice League arguing why Lois Lane deserved a solo film. I stand by that piece, which is why I was positively JAZZED yesterday when DC announced a prequel television series titled Metropolis, centered on the characters of Lois Lane and Lex Luthor. It's coming from the producers of Gotham, so you can count out Amy Adams or Jesse Eisenberg. But there's still great reason to be excited for this venture. Here's my top five reasons to get excited for Metropolis...
#5 - The Premise Here's how DC pitches the series:
Set in the wondrous and awe-inspiring City of Tomorrow before the arrival of Superman, Metropolis follows Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as they investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city’s dark and bizarre secrets. This is a series set before Superman buzzed the skies. Before Lex was a calculating villain. Before Lois was a Pulitzer Prize winner. That isn't to say Clark Kent won&…

Review: AGENTS OF SHIELD 5x09: "Best Laid Plans"

“Ass kickin’ has just begun.”
- MackAwww, BABY! HECK YEAH, AGENTS OF SHIELD!!! What a MARVELOUS episode this one was. Let's just jump right in...

[Warning: The Following Contains SPOILERS for Agents of SHIELD 5x09.]
When last we left our Agents, Robin had died, but now they know they're in a timeloop and can use that knowledge to problem solve their way out of it. May reveals Robin's final vision: with Flint's Inhuman abilities, they'll be able to reconstruct the monolith using the fragment they found in the last episode. As the Agents get to work on fixing the Zephyr, Fitz & Simmons find evidence of their time looping shenanigans, including artificial gravity upgrades to the Zephyr.

At the Lighthouse, Kasius resurrects Tess with Kree technology and sends her back to the humans as a symbol, attempting to prop himself up as a God. Tess demands Flint be sent back to Kasius, or he will blow up all the human levels of the Lighthouse. Mack & co. do some digging and …

Review: AGENTS OF SHIELD 5x08: "The Last Day"

What a loopy episode.

What a loopy episode.

*whe-WAIT a sec...

[Warning: The Following Contains SPOILERS for Agents of SHIELD 5x08.]
FINALLY!!!! FINALLY!!! The B-plot is FINALLY good, and Coulson FINALLY has something to do. HECK YEA!

We pick up from the last episode, with May & Enoch in the company of Robin, Coulson & co. crashing on the fragment of Earth, and Mack, Yo-Yo, & Flint camping out at the Lighthouse.

Coulson and the gang crash their ride and are rescued by the Human resistance, lead by Samuel Voss. Turns out Zephyr One survived after Earth's destruction, and has become something of a survival bunker for these people. The elder Robin, who showed up at the end of the last episode, has spent most of her life living on the Zephyr, and over the course of the episode we learn that the Agents are stuck in a time loop where they visit the future, go back, crash the Zephyr, and return, back and forth multiple times, and that somewhere along the way, the Earth …

Kevin Feige Isn't Thinking About Adding X-Men and Fantastic Four to the Marvel Cinematic Universe...Yet

Last month, Disney confirmed that the company was in the process of acquiring 21st Century Fox, including its film studio. This would bring the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool franchises under the Marvel Studios umbrella. However, the merger is at least a year away from happening, as the deal needs to receive congressional approval before being finalized. In the meantime, what does Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige have to say about it?

Speaking with Vulture, Feige admits that he didn't even hear about the Disney/Fox deal until it was announced to the public. And since the deal isn't finalized yet, Feige isn't even thinking about adding the new characters to the MCU just yet. "The truth of the matter as I understand it is the deal has to be figured out. There’s been no communication. We’re not thinking about it. We’re focusing on everything we’ve already announced. If and when the deal actually happens, we’ll start to think more about it. Until then, we have a lot to…

Director Nicole Kassell Tapped for WATCHMEN Pilot

While news for Damon Lindelof's Watchmen series has been few and far between, more is beginning to drip as the show speeds into production.

Deadline reports that director Nicole Kassell has been tapped to helm the Pilot episode. Kassell has an impressive resume, having directed episodes of Lindelof's The Leftovers, along with episodes of Better Call Saul, The Americans, and the upcoming Castle Rock series at Hulu. All of these shows are shot in a raw and dramatic way, so we can expect Watchmen to have a similar tone.

Watchmen is produced by Lindelof’s White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros. Television. The show is expected to air on HBO in 2018.

BLACK PANTHER Outpacing All Other Superhero Movies on Fandango

Marvel Studios' Black Panther is finally hitting theaters in a couple weeks, and it is on track to be another mega-hit for the company. Early reactions say that it's incredible, while early box office tracking suggests an opening well over $100 million. Now, the film has broken a pretty big record.

Fandangohas announced that Black Panther is outpacing every other superhero film in advance ticket sales, making it the genre's biggest seller on the platform. The top spot was previously held by 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This is yet another indicator that interest is very, very high in this movie.

Current tracking has Black Panther opening somewhere in the $100-120 million range, with the potential to overperform. Based on its advance ticket sales, it's easy to see the movie making a lot more. It could totally hit the $160 million range. But, expect more accurate tracking closer to the film's release.

Black Panther is scheduled to hit theaters on Febru…

Who is Dove Cameron Playing on AGENTS OF SHIELD?

The casting keeps comin' and they don't stop comin'!

Entertainment Weekly has the scoop on a new character coming to Marvel's Agents of SHIELD.

Actress Dove Cameron, star of Disney's Descendants and the voice of Spider-Gwen in Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, has been cast in the role of Ruby, described as "a young woman of cunning intelligence who has a mysterious obsession with Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet)." Cameron's character is also the daughter of General Hale, played by Catherine Dent. The General had a role in the episode "Rewind," where her character was seen doing... less than savory things to her co-workers.

Little else is known about Cameron's character, but producer Jed Whedon is quoted saying, “The role she’s playing, she’s not an obvious fit for."

What role do you think Ruby will fill on the show? Have any theories? Let us know on Twitter @AstonishMarvels or on Instagram @wobamnews!

Review: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Awesome Mix Vol. 2

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: Awesome Mix Vol. 2 is the soundtrack for the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 film. These songs are all featured in the film or in the trailers. In the world of the Guardians of the Galxy, these songs are all on Peter Quill A.K.A Star-Lord’s (Chris Pratt) mixtape. The music was personally chosen by director James Gunn. He has great taste. What’s great about the first and second Awesome Mix’s is that James Gunn used the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a platform for older songs and artists. Songs and artists that older generations forgot about and young people were clueless about became the forefront of popular culture after they were used in the Guardians of the Galaxy films. For instance, ‘Come a Little Bit Closer’ by the Jay and the Americans was a top five hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the 1964, but had fallen into obscurity by 2017. By using the song in a prominent scene in the movie with Yondu, Rocket, and Groot ‘Come a Little Bit Closer’ will n…

Katrina Law Returning to ARROW This Season

The Daughter of the Demon is returning to Arrow for episode sixteen this season, titled "The Thanatos Guild," according to Variety. The episode is said to be one that will change Arrow forever, as Nyssa (played by Katrina Law) will come to Star City with news of an impending danger that will affect everyone on the show.

When we last saw Nyssa al Ghul on Arrow, she aligned herself with Oliver Queen and others to defeat Adrian Chase (and her sister Talia) on Lian Yu in the season five finale. She, along with (almost) everyone else, escaped the island's destruction, but we haven't seen her since.

Stay tuned for more news as we have it.

Should WONDER WOMAN Have Been Nominated at the Oscars?

DC Films' Wonder Woman was a huge cultural phenomenon last year, becoming one of the biggest films commercially and critically of 2017. It was the first female superhero movie in over a decade, and it resonated incredibly well with female audiences. Simply put, it couldn't have come out at a more relevant time. The praise was so strong, many expected Wonder Woman to have a presence at this year's Academy Awards. But, alas, the film did not get a single Oscar nomination.

As a result, many criticized the Oscars for snubbing Wonder Woman, spawning much discussion. But this brings up the question: Should the movie have been nominated at the Oscars? We'll dive into that here.

Before we go any further, let's not forget that superhero movies very rarely get any major Oscar recognition. Heath Ledger posthumously won the Best Supporting Actor award for his role as Joker in The Dark Knight in 2009, while Suicide Squad won for Best Makeup and Hairstyling last year. This year…

VENOM: Jenny Slate and Scott Haze's Characters Reportedly Revealed

Filming has been underway on Sony's Venom movie for a few months, but there's still a lot we don't know about it. For example, who are actors Jenny Slate and Scott Haze playing in the film? Well, a new rumor may have the answer to that one.

According to MCUExchange, Jenny Slate is playing Dora Skirth, a scientist who works at Life Foundation, a company that plays a big role in Venom. It sounds like Skirth is an original character, but it's possible she could be an amalgamation of several minor characters from the comics.

Additionally, Scott Haze is said to be playing Roland Treece, the founder of Treece International and a part of the Life Foundation's Board of Directors with Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed).

There is still no word on who is playing the villainous Cletus Kasady, aka Carnage. Hopefully, that character will be confirmed soon. (Personally, I wouldn't be shocked if this was Woody Harrelson's character.)

Venom is scheduled to hit theaters on October 5th, 2…
