HARLEY QUINN Animated Series in Development at DC’s Streaming Service; Will Margot Robbie Star?

Ever since her creation in 1992’s Batman: The Animated Series, Harley Quinn has quickly become one of DC Comics’ most popular characters. She is prominently featured in the New 52 and Rebirth comics, while she got her big break with last year’s Suicide Squad movie, where she’s played by Margot Robbie. In addition to a sequel, Robbie is expected to reprise the role in a Harley Quinn/Joker team-up film and Gotham City Sirens. Now, there’s more.

According to Deadline, an adult animated series starring Harley Quinn is in the works at DC’s upcoming streaming service. So far, 26 episodes have been ordered, written and executive produced by Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, and Dean Lorey. The series follows Harley as she finally breaks up with the Joker, and she attempts to make it on her own as the criminal Queenpin of Gotham. The show will also feature Poison Ivy and other heroes and villains from the DC Universe.

This is the third original series to be greenlit by DC’s streaming service, following the live action Titans and a third season of Young Justice.

But who will voice Harley in this series? Deadline says that Margot Robbie herself is at the top of the shortlist, and she is expected to be formally approached soon. There’s no word on whether Robbie will actually do it, but if she signs on, that’d be a big get for the show.

It’s unknown when Harley Quinn will premiere, but the DC streaming service launches next year with the premieres of Titans and Young Justice: Outsiders.
