Spoiler Recap: LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Episode 3×1 “Aruba-Con”

We are back! Boy, this episode doesn’t waste any time. After our heroes ruined the timeline things started to get weird. This episode picks up right where we left off last season. In the span of a few minutes, Rip created a SHIELD-like organization called the Time Bureau. He spent the next 5 years of his time creating this organization just to clean up the Legends mess. He then reliefs them of their duties and leaves them in 2017. We jump to present day where they all are trying to adjust to civilian life. Sara basically works at Wal-Mart, Nate is playing sidekick to Kid Flash, Ray is working on a new smartphone app, Rory made it to Aruba while Jax has returned to school and Stein is with his family. It’s honestly pretty funny seeing them be so awkward in normal life.

The time portals are closed by Rip and his team, but they managed to miss one very important person – Julius Caesar. While Rory is on his vacation Caesar ends up right in front of him. Sara believes that this is their chance to prove themselves. If they can return Caesar to his rightful place maybe they can get the Waverider back. It’s a solid plan. After the last two seasons, the Legends have become a family and it’s touching that they want to keep their team together. This set-up does lead to some crazy antics and hilarious moments; something we’ve come to expect from Legends of Tomorrow. The show is at its best when it doesn’t take itself too seriously, and this episode did that perfectly. The team works so well together; seeing emotional moments from Jax and Stien really made this episode for me.

Once they get Caesar back to his time you’d think it was mission accomplished, but nope. They goofed up and rewrote history again. It turns out Nate had a history book with him and Caesar managed to swipe it when they weren’t looking. They went Back to the Future Part II on us. Now, Caesar has the almanac book of Roman history and is changing the world as we know it. That’s definitely not a good thing, and now they need the Time Bureau’s help, great job guys! This episode is solid but it’s just trying to keep the Legends from doing what they do best – ruin the timeline. Rip’s team wasn’t successful with catching Caesar so it’s up to the Legends (once again) to save the day. Together, the Time Bureau and the Legends beat Caesar and get the book back.

Rip decides to let the Legends continue on because he thinks their unpredictable style might be useful. The group is back and everyone’s happy; well, except for Nate. He’s depressed because Amya returned to Zambesi [1942]. She’s there to fulfill her destiny, something Rip mentioned previously. The final scene is with her fighting off enemies in her village, unleashing power I’ve never seen. I have a feeling that we’ll see her again soon.

That’s the season premiere of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow! It was great to see these characters once again, even though the plot was frustrating at times. The humor was on point and the action scenes were well done. It was a solid episode overall and I’m excited to see more. We’ll be back talking Legends soon. For more reviews and everything on the Arrowverse, stay tuned.

Watch DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Tuesday nights at 9/8ct on The CW.
