New PUNISHER Image Revisits Frank Castle's Past

Netflix recently started hyping up its next Marvel original series, The Punisher. A short teaser trailer was attached to The Defenders, while we recently learned the episode order and titles. Now, we have a new still image, courtesy of Empire Online.

In the following still, we see Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle from his military past, serving as a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. This scene is part of a flashback that will flesh out Castle’s backstory, before putting down bad guys as the Punisher.

Additionally, Bernthal sheds light on the Castle vs. Punisher conflict in the series, as well as whether the character will ever want to end his war on crime. “It’s the only thing that silences the demons, temporarily. There’s going to be an attempt to move beyond the Punisher, but that’s something he can’t shake. There’s part of me that’s hungry to get back into the darkness, that’s excited to see it fall apart.” Daredevil season two heavily explored Castle’s psychology and how that drives him to become a murderous vigilante. Unsurprisingly, it appears that this will continue in this series.

Stay tuned for more as we have it. The Punisher will premiere sometime this year on Netflix.
