Drew Goddard to Write and Direct X-FORCE Movie for Fox

In recent years, 20th Century Fox has been in the process of expanding its X-Men universe, launching the Deadpool franchise and introducing the New Mutants next year. Additionally, Wolverine’s story came to an end with Logan, which also saw the beginning of X-23’s. Gambit is also in development hell.

But one film that’s been in development for a while is X-Force, a team of black ops mutants who are far more ruthless and lethal than the main X-Men. Now, the movie has a director and writer.

According to Deadline, Drew Goddard is set to write and direct X-Force. Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin are reprising their roles as Deadpool and Cable, respectively. It’s unknown who the other team members are, but it’s safe to assume that Zazie Beetz’ Domino – who debuts in Deadpool 2 alongside Cable – will be included too. Reynolds is also producing alongside Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner.

Goddard has been circling the comic book world for a while now. He wrote the first two episodes of Daredevil, which he created but was unable to showrun. He also wrote a script for Sinister Six with an eye to direct, but obviously, that never happened.

It’s unknown when X-Force undergoes production, but Goddard is expected to jump in right after his next directorial effort, Bad Times at the El Royale. Its release date also hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s probably one of the several untitled films dated by Fox.

Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
