Sony Sets 2019 Release Date for SILVER AND BLACK

Sony is moving forward with its slate of Spider-Man-based films, which (as of right now anyways) aren’t actually connected to Spider-Man and aren’t in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Following next fall’s Venom, Sony will release Silver and Black, which teams up Silver Sable with Black Cat. Now, we have a release date.

Sony has announced that Silver and Black will hit theaters on February 8th, 2019. This makes it the first comic book movie of that year; Fox previously set an untitled Marvel movie for the week after on February 15th. Production will begin sometime this fall. Gina Prince-Bythewood will direct and rewrite the script, which was originally written by Lisa Joy and then Christopher Yost. The film is produced by Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal.

Silver and Black was previously called a buddy movie akin to Thelma & Louise, with a more grounded approach to its characters. In addition to Silver Sable and Black Cat, the film is rumored to feature a slew of villains from the Spider-Man universe, such as Gaunt and Scorpion.

With production starting this fall and a release date set, expect casting news to be announced soon. Stay tuned.
