Ranked: SPIDER-MAN Movie Villains

The villains in the Spider-Man films has ranged from bad to great. Each performance is unique and special in their own way. In this list we're going to rank every single villain from all the Spider-Man films from worst to best, and yes we're even including Spider-Man: Homecoming. How well does the Vulture stack up against the rest? We're about to find out!

11. The Rhino (The Amazing Spider-Man 2)
The Rhino (Paul Giamatti)  is at the bottom of this list because he's the absolute worst. He's loud, over-the-top, and completely useless. He's so forgettable that he almost didn't make the list. You can cut him out of the film and it wouldn't miss a beat. There's honestly not much more I can say about this character.
10. The Green Goblin (The Amazing Spider-Man 2)
Dane DeHaan is a great actor, and I was so excited to see his portrayal of Harry Osborn. Seeing a new take on the character after Franco was welcomed, especially coming off of The Amazing Spider-Man,…

X-MEN Casting Bits: Rosario Dawson Exits NEW MUTANTS, Quicksilver Returns for DARK PHOENIX

We have a couple of casting updates on two of the next movies in the X-Men universe. First off, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Rosario Dawson has dropped out of Josh Boone's New Mutants. Replacing her is Alice Braga, whose credits include I Am Legend and Predators. It's unclear why Dawson exited the project.

Braga will play Dr. Cecilia Reyes, who can generate a protective bio-field around herself, but there's apparently more to her than meets the eye. The movie also stars Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, and Blu Hunt. Production is expected to begin in July.

New Mutants is set to hit theaters on April 13th, 2018.

In other news, the next installment in the main X-Men series, Dark Phoenix, is beginning production this week. THRhas also learned that Evan Peters' Peter Maximoff, aka Quicksilver, is coming back for this movie. Dark Phoenix has also cast The Next Step actor Lamar Johnson in an unknown role.

Peters' Quicksilver became a fan-…

Fox Sets Release Dates for Six Untitled Marvel Movies

Without a doubt, the X-Men franchise is one of the most important at 20th Century Fox. In addition to two trilogies and two Wolverine movies, the studio recently launched the wildly successful Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's last Wolverine outing, Logan. Fox also tried to relaunch Fantastic Four a couple years ago, but the less we say about that, the better.

Next year, Fox will release a whopping three X-Men-related films: New Mutants, Deadpool 2 and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. And now, the studio has set released dates for a lot more movies.

Fox (via Exhibitor Relations) has updated its release schedule, adding release dates for six untitled Marvel movies that span from 2019 to 2021.
June 7th, 2019November 22nd, 2019March 13th, 2020June 26th, 2020October 2nd, 2020March 5th, 2021Obviously, the next step is to speculate what these movies are. Fox has been developing several X-Men projects for a while, including Gambit and X-Force. There has also been interest in bringing back X-23 from Logan, as…

Spider-Man: Homecoming is a big film for the character. Spider-Man was not in a good place after The Amazing Spider-Man 2, with many (including myself) wondering how would they recover. People weren't taking to the reboot and for good reason. On February 9th, 2015, the unthinkable happened. Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures managed to come to an agreement where both studios co-produce a Spider-Man film set in the MCU. The internet freaked out. Finally, Spider-Man can fight alongside other heroes like Iron Man and Captain America. Here we are two years later and that moment is finally here; Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Does Spider-Man: Homecoming live up to the hype? Let's find out! Before we go any further know that I will go into very minorspoilers. Nothing major (you've seen most of it in the trailers), but you've been warned.

The film starts with a flashback to New York after the Avengers battle with Loki. Here we get our first look at the film's v…

Stephen Amell Hopes to Explore Green Arrow's Liberal Roots in ARROW Season 6

While Green Arrow was written as little more than a Batman knock-off when he was first created, the character was later developed into his own unique persona by other writers. Oliver Queen went on to adopt a goatee and strong liberal beliefs. (Essentially, he's a social justice warrior.) Those classic elements mostly went away in the New 52, before returning in Rebirth.

On television, Arrow hasn't exactly embraced those aspects of the characters fully. The show has spent most of its time exploring a darker take on the Emerald Archer, who spends more time brooding than cracking jokes. (There's those pesky Batman knock-off complaints again...) We've seen some of his political views come up last season, but that's about it.

Now, series star Stephen Amell hopes to explore those classic elements. Appearing at this past weekend's Heroes & Villains Fan Fest (via Cinema Blend), Amell expressed interest in seeing Oliver's development on Arrow ultimately lead to…

Director Matt Reeves Talks THE BATMAN and What to Expect From The Film

It's been almost five months since Matt Reeves joined The Batman project. The War for Planet of the Apes director has been plenty busy working on the third film in the acclaimed trilogy. Now that the film has wrapped up, and the interviews have begun, Reeves has finally spoken about The Dark Knight.

In an interview with New Trailer Buzz, Reeves says why he was attracted to Batman as well as what style the film might go for: One of the reasons I was drawn to it is, I had a similar fascination to Batman when I was younger that I had with The Planet of the Apes series, which I was obsessed with. And  I see a parallel emotionally between Caesar and Batman; in that they're both characters who are tortured and trying to sort of, grapple within themselves to find a way to do the right thing. In a very imperfect and to some degree corrupt world.

Reeves went on to say: So it's really that emotionality that I'm interested in. I want to do a very point of view driven [story]. In …

Director Jon Watts Will (Probably) Return for SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Sequel; Title and Filming Date Teased

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters next week, but Marvel and Sony are already going full speed ahead on a sequel. The second film in the proposed trilogy is scheduled for July 5th, 2019, and it will follow Tom Holland's Peter Parker after the events of the next two Avengers films. The sequel is also expected to bring in another MCU character, filling the void left by Iron Man.

Now, we have more news. Speaking with Collider, producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal confirm that they intend to bring director Jon Watts back for the Homecoming sequel. Pascal offers nothing but praise for the filmmaker, who makes his big budget debut with Homecoming. "He knocked it out of the park. We would be crazy [not to bring him back]. He did a wonderful job and the whole atmosphere of the movie, all the things that people like about it are the things he brought to it. He’s really special." As for Watts himself, he remains mum on details, but he says he is signed on to do two movies.

Both of…

Marvel TV News Bits: LEGION Returning to Comic-Con, DAREDEVIL Character in THE PUNISHER, INHUMANS Premiere Date

FX has confirmed (via Deadline) that Legion will be part of its SDCC panel. The panel takes place on Thursday, July 20th in Ballroom 20. Showrunner Noah Hawley, star Dan Stevens, Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb, and other cast members are expected to appear.

Expect more updates to come as we draw closer to SDCC.

MCUExchangehas learned that Karen's boss, Mitchell Ellison (played by Geoffrey Cantor) will appear on The Punisher. IMDb claims that he is in episodes 2 and 9 of the series. On Daredevil, Ellison is the editor-in-chief of the New York Bulletin. He was originally the boss of Ben Urich, and in season two, h…

WONDER WOMAN Box Office Updates, Weekend #4

This past weekend, DC Films' Wonder Woman continued to hold very well at the domestic box office, despite the arrival of Transformers: The Last Knight.

Per Box Office Mojo, he critically acclaimed superhero movie maintained the #2 spot with $24.9 million, behind Transformers' $44.7 million ($68.5 million over five days). Wonder Woman makes slightly more than last week's winner, Cars 3, which grossed $24.1 million.

To date, Wonder Woman has grossed $318.1 million domestically and $335.8 million overseas. This brings its worldwide total to $653.9 million. The movie has now surpassed Man of Steel at the domestic box office, and it should fly by the other DCEU films, Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman, very soon. Wonder Woman should also pass Man of Steel's worldwide total any day now, and by the time its run is over, it could even go beyond Suicide Squad's.

Stay tuned for more box office updates as we have them.

Kevin Feige Teases Impact of AVENGERS 3 and 4 on SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING Sequel

Following his debut in Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland's Web-Slinger makes his solo debut in this summer's Spider-Man: Homecoming. But after that, Spidey will be popping up in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War and 2019's untitled Avengers sequel. Two months after the latter, a sequel to Homecoming will be released. Considering the next two Avengers movies' massive impact on the MCU and Spidey's role in the story, you would think the character's next solo movie would explore the ramifications of that. Sure enough, it will.

Speaking with io9, Marvel's Kevin Feige confirms that the Homecoming sequel will see Peter Parker dealing with the events of the Avengers sequels and transitioning to the next phase of the MCU. "So much happens in [the 3rd and 4th Avengers movies], as you can imagine, and so much is affected by it that we felt what better person to hold your hand and lead you into the next incarnation of the MCU, in a grounded, realistic manner…

Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal Clarify - Sony's SPIDER-MAN "Spinoffs" Are Separate from the MCU

Originally, it was reported that Sony's slate of films based on Spider-Man characters, including Venom and Silver & Black, would be set in their own universe, rather than the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Feige confirmed this in interviews, saying that Marvel Studios isn't involved. However, Sony's Amy Pascal strongly implied in a recent interview that these projects do, in fact, take place in the MCU. Clearly, this confused a lot of people. But now, we have clarification.

Speaking with Comic Book, Pascal and Feige clarify that Sony's "spinoffs" are, indeed, separate from the MCU. Pascal explains, "Here's what we're doing: all these characters are a part of the Marvel comic book universe. In that universe, they are all related to each other. Kevin [Feige] makes characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. These characters are separate, except for Spidey, who belongs in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is why he's there." So, th…

After five theatrical movies, Spider-Man is finally in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thanks to Marvel Studios and Sony's contract, Peter Parker made his MCU debut in last year's Captain America: Civil War, and he is headlining his own movie in this summer's Spider-Man: Homecoming. He will also appear in a solo sequel, plus the next two Avengers movies.

With Homecoming now upon us, we at Astonishing Marvels are planning a week-long series of reviews and features celebrating the Spider-Man franchise. We begin on Saturday, July 1st. Dazzler Will Appear in X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX

After much speculation, 20th Century Fox recently confirmed the main cast and director of its next main X-Men film, Dark Phoenix. Also, Jessica Chastain is in talks to play the villain, an alien empress called Lilandra.

Now, we have confirmation of another mutant joining the film. According to Entertainment Weekly, Dazzler will appear in Dark Phoenix. However, she will only have a small role in this movie. Dazzler is a pop star who has the ability to manipulate light, creating energy and light beams with sound vibrations.

We actually got a tease of Dazzler in a deleted scene from X-Men: Apocalypse, where we see her album. There were even rumors that Taylor Swift woul…

Fox Sets Premiere Date for THE GIFTED

Following the success of FX's Legion, Marvel Television is bringing another X-Men-related story to the small screen. Fox's The Gifted tells the story of a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.

Now, we have a premiere date. Fox (via TV Line) has confirmed that The Gifted will premiere on Monday, October 2nd at 9 PM EST, following the season premiere of Lucifer. It's unknown what the episode count for the series is; a while back, showrunner Matt Nix expressed interest in a 12-13 episode season, rather than the typical 22+ episodes. But, again, that's yet to be confirmed.

($609.8 million) as the highest grossing live action movie to be directed by a woman. Wonder Woman is also on the verge of surpassing Man of Steel ($291 million) at the domestic box office, and it will probably surpass the other DCEU films in North America too.

Despite competition from new releases, including this week's Transformers: The Last Knight, Wonder Woman is expected to maintain its strong legs. Stay tuned for more updates as we have them.

THE BATMAN Director Matt Reeves Talks "Personal" Approach and Possible Hitchcock Influence

Earlier this year, Matt Reeves signed on to direct and produce The Batman for Warner Bros. and DC Films. However, the filmmaker has been focused on finishing up his new movie, War for the Planet of the Apes, which hits theaters next month. So, he hasn't really been able to begin working on The Batman, but in a couple of interviews, he shares some ideas on what he wants to do with the film.

Speaking with Comic Book, Reeves says that, while he's just getting started on The Batman, he plans on going in with a personal approach to the title character, comparing him to Planet of the Apes' Caesar. "For me, what's always important is to try and find a personal way in. In that way, I do feel like I relate to actors. It's about understanding emotionally, the way something is. I see this parallel between Caesar and Batman, really, which is this idea of these characters who are grappling with their own struggle and trying to do the right thing in an imperfect world and,…

Animated SPIDER-MAN Movie Casts Mahershala Ali and Brian Tyree Henry

In addition to Sony's tentative new Spider-Man trilogy and a slew of spin-offs, the studio is developing an animated movie starring Miles Morales. The still-untitled film, produced by Chris Miller and Phil Lord, will star Shameik Moore as Miles, with Liev Schrieber playing the villain. Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey are directing.

Now, we have two more actors for the voice cast. According to The Tracking Board, the Spider-Man animated movie has added Oscar winner Mahershala Ali and Atlanta's Brian Tyree Henry to its voice cast. Ali will voice Aaron Davis, Miles' loving uncle who works on the wrong side of the law. Henry will play Jefferson Davis, Miles' father who is also a detective. Aaron is said to have a larger role in the story than Jefferson.

This will mark Ali's second Marvel role, following his fantastic performance as Cottonmouth Cornell Stokes on Netflix's Luke Cage. He is also coming off of a wildly successful year, as he won an Academy Award for his…

HBO Moving Forward with WATCHMEN Series; Damon Lindelof May Develop

A couple years ago, it was revealed that Watchmen director Zack Snyder was talking with HBO about developing a television adaptation of the story. Since then, we didn't get any updates, and Snyder had been busy with Batman v Superman and Justice League. (He left post-production work on the latter to deal with a family tragedy.) But now, HBO is moving forward with the series - without Snyder.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Damon Lindelof is in talks to develop a Watchmen show for HBO. Lindelof served as co-creator and showrunner on Lost and HBO's The Leftovers. He has also written movies such as Prometheus and Star Trek Into Darkness. Back in 2009, Lindelof talked about his love for Watchmen and how it influences his work.

Watchmen is currently in the early development process. It's unclear how much it will take from the original graphic novel, or even if it will take some stuff from the "Before Watchmen" comics. But the movie was extremely faithful to the so…
