The CW President Teases Next Fall’s Arrowverse Crossover; BLACK LIGHTNING Won’t Be Involved

The CW originally began crossover events in the fall of 2014, when The Flash and Arrow united for a two-episode event. The formula was repeated the next year, and last year’s crossover was the biggest one yet, bringing in Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Of course, this trend will continue this coming fall, with all four shows returning for new seasons. At
Upfronts today (via THR), The CW president Mark Pedowitz confirms that the next Arrowverse crossover will air in November. He adds that last year’s event resulted in The CW’s most-watched week in six years.

However, one show that won’t play a role is newcomer Black Lightning, which premieres during midseason. Pedowitz confirms at Upfronts (via EW) that Black Lightning isn’t even set in the Arrowverse (not yet, anyways), and the series films in Atlanta while the others are in Vancouver. “We do not aim to do a five-way crossover. Black Lightning, at this time, is not part of the Arrowverse. It is a separate situation. But there will be a big fourth quarter crossover with all four of the shows that are on in the fall.”

Berlanti stated last year that Black Lightning would be separate from the Arrowverse, but that was before the show’s move to The CW. It looks like that will still be the plan, at least for the foreseeable future. I mean, they managed to have Supergirl crossover with the other shows via the Multiverse, so it would make sense to do the same for Black Lightning. But at the same time, it makes sense for Black Lightning to establish itself without connecting to the other shows. After that, we’ll see what happens.

Plot details on the next crossover event are under wraps still. Andrew Kreisberg previously teased plans for a “proper” four-way event, which would result in Supergirl playing a bigger role.
