Dwayne Johnson Teases BLACK ADAM Movie and DC Films’ World Building

Dwayne Johnson has been attached to play DC’s Black Adam for a few years now. Originally, he was going to serve as the main villain in the Shazam film. However, this year, it was announced that Black Adam will instead star in his own movie, with the potential to meet Shazam in a sequel. Now, Johnson has shed some light on this decision.

Speaking with MTV, The Rock offered an update on Shazam and Black Adam, while teasing DC Films’ ongoing efforts to expand the cinematic universe. “We’ve had great discussions with Geoff Johns over at DC. This is a really fun, cool time for DC right now because they’re world-building. We’re seeing that with Wonder Woman and Aquaman. We have a few surprises down the line.”

And as part of this world building, Shazam and Black Adam will be separate movies. “So what we decided to do was to create a scenario where Black Adam has his stand-alone movie, and Captain Marvel, Shazam, has his stand-alone movie. We’re building our world that way, and then we can come together at some point.” When asked for more details on Black Adam, Johnson only says that it will be ““f**king awesome.”

Last we heard on Shazam, David F. Sandberg was in negotiations to direct. The most recent draft was written by Henry Gayden. As for Black Adam, no director or screenwriter has been hired…yet.

Stay tuned for more news on these and other DC movies as we have it.
