Highlights From WONDER WOMAN Set Visits Reveal New Story Details and More

Last year, a group of movie websites visited the set of DC Films’ Wonder Woman. Today, they get to publish what they saw and learned about the highly anticipated movie. Collider posted a lengthy list of highlights from the set visit, and we’ll share some of them here. These include new details on the film’s plot, confirmation of many characters, and more.

  • As previously stated, Wonder Woman will have bookend scenes set in the present day (aka after the events of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). But otherwise, the film takes place in World War I for Diana’s origin story.
  • As a child, Diana learns about the creation of the Amazons, as well as their connections to Ares (yes, he’s the film’s villain) and Ares. From there, it’s pretty much the standard Wonder Woman origin: Steve Trevor crash lands on Themyscira, he tells the Amazons about the Great War, Diana travels to man’s world (specifically London) with Steve, and the “naive” Diana is a fish out of water.
  • In terms of both tone and story, Collider compares Wonder Woman to a mashup of Marvel Studios’ Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger.
  • There are two human villains: Danny Huston’s Lundendorff, a rogue German general, and Elena Anaya’s Dr. Maru/Dr. Poison, who – you guessed it – creates various poisons. Additionally, Ares is involved in the grand scheme of things.
  • As for other characters, Ewen Bremner plays Charlie, Saïd Taghmaoui plays Sameer, and Eugene Brave Rock plays Chief. All three fight with Diana and Steve in the war. Also, David Thewlis plays Assemblyman Sir Patrick Morton, who is a British politician advocating for peace. (However, rumor has it that Thewlis may actually be Ares. Let’s see if that turns out to be true.)
  • The movie is shot in 35mm, rather than IMAX.
  • Costume designer Lindy Hemming looked to Greek influences in creating the Amazonian armor. Her biggest challenge was successfully merging the fantastical elements of Wonder Woman’s world with the reality of World War I.
There’s a lot more in Collider’s full article, which you can read HERE.
We’re less than three months away from the release of Wonder Woman, and if these set visits are any indication, the film’s marketing campaign should enter its final stretch soon. A third (final?) trailer has recently been classified, so that should drop soon. Stay tuned for more as we have it.

Wonder Woman is scheduled to hit theaters June 2nd. The fourth installment in the DC Extended Universe stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis, Lisa Loven Kongsli and Connie Nielsen. Patty Jenkins directs and co-wrote the script with Geoff Johns and Allan Heinberg.
