FEATURE: Five DC Characters We Want to See in THE LEGO MOVIE SEQUEL

The LEGO Movie introduced characters from multiple intellectual properties, including DC Comics. Batman is, of course, the most noticeable addition, as he played a key supporting role and stars in spin-off The LEGO Batman Movie. The LEGO Movie also featured Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Aquaman and Flash in minor roles.

With The LEGO Movie Sequel coming in 2019, it only makes sense to bring in other well-known characters, including those from the DC Universe. Part of the appeal of The LEGO Movie was seeing characters from multiple franchises interact in one film, and DC is one of Warner Bros.’ biggest franchise. So, it makes sense to continue that in the sequel.

Below, I’ve listed five DC characters who should be in The LEGO Movie Sequel.

Lex Luthor
Lex Luthor is not only Superman’s greatest villain, but he is one of the most iconic villains in comic book history. He has been depicted in countless adaptations, including the LEGO Batman video games. So, he would be an ideal addition to the cast of The LEGO Movie Sequel.
As for how he would fit into the story, introduce Lex as the classic businessman/evil genius that he is, and (obviously) have him serve as an antagonist. Though, that could be a slight retread of Lord Business from the first movie. Regardless, seeing Lex in this world would be a lot of fun, further expanding the presence of Superman’s mythos.
Plastic Man

Patrick “Eel” O’Brian was originally a Quality Comics character, before being picked up by DC in 1956. Since then, the character has appeared in a variety of comics and animated projects for DC Entertainment. Plastic Man is a very cartoonish character; he has a quirky and offbeat sense of humor, while his superhuman elasticity allows him to shapeshift and more.

So, why not include Plastic Man in The LEGO Movie Sequel? It may be easier to depict Plastic Man’s powers in this format than in live action, while he could be really funny and entertaining in the LEGO world. This could be the character’s big break on the silver screen, and with the character not appearing in a forthcoming DC movie or TV show, this would be a good opportunity.

Shazam
Shazam is a fun, family-friendly superhero who would be a perfect fit into the world of LEGO. The character’s live action movie is still in development at New Line Cinema, but while we wait for that, introducing him in The LEGO Movie Sequel would be awesome.
Shazam’s power set, humor, and charisma would make for great entertainment in a LEGO movie. Also, he’s one of the few Justice League members who does not appear in The LEGO Batman Movie, so introducing him later on in the direct sequel would be great.
Supergirl
Supergirl’s popularity is at an all-time high, with a successful television series and a role in the DC Super Hero Girls line. So, it would make sense to expand Kara’s exposure by adding a brick-sized iteration in The LEGO Movie Sequel

Supergirl’s inclusion in the LEGO world would be entertaining, and again, she would be another part of Superman’s mythos to be added to this universe. Also, the LEGO movies could always use more female superheroes. We have Wyldstyle and Wonder Woman in the first movie, plus Batgirl and others in LEGO Batman. Now, it’s Supergirl’s turn.

Green Lantern (John Stewart)

And finally, we have another member of the Green Lantern Corps. So far, Hal Jordan is the only Green Lantern we’ve met in this universe. But the GLC is a vast, diverse group of all kinds of individuals who wield the ring. And John Stewart is arguably the most recognizable of them…next to Hal, of course.

Seeing John Stewart in The LEGO Movie Sequel would be really cool, especially if partnered up with Hal. Have John be the serious, on-task Lantern while Hal continues to be a goofball. A role in a LEGO movie could also add more exposure to Stewart, as he preps for his live action debut in 2020’s Green Lantern Corps.

Honorable Mentions: Lois Lane, Blue Beetle, Firestorm, Black Adam, Harley Quinn
