FLASH SPOILER Review: Episode 3x13 - "Attack on Gorilla City"

SUICIDE SQUAD Wins Oscar for Best Makeup & Hairstyling

Suicide Squad became the first installment of the DC Extended Universe to be nominated for an Academy Award. The movie was nominated in the Best Makeup and Hairstyling category alongside Star Trek Beyond and A Man Called Ove. And, perhaps in one of the biggest surprise of the ceremony, Task Force X won.

At the Oscars last night, Alessandro Bertolazzi, Giorgio Gregorini and Christopher Nelson took home the award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling for their work on Suicide Squad. It was the only comic book movie to win an Oscar this year. This also marks the first time that a DC Comics adaptation won an award since 2009, when The Dark Knight picked up Best Sound Editing and a posthumous Best Supporting Actor trophy for Heath Ledger.

I know what you're thinking. A critically panned superhero movie winning an Academy Award? Yes, that does sound a bit bizarre. But honestly, if Suicide Squad succeeded in any category, it was the makeup and hairstyling. Killer Croc's makeup was done rea…

While Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice made a lot of money at the box office last year, the majority of critics didn't like it and the general audience was so-so. It's arguably the most polarizing comic book movie to date. In fact, the "cool thing to do" has become talking trash about the film and greatly exaggerating its flaws. It's gotten to the point where it picked up several nominations at this year's Razzie Awards, and now, the results are in.

Batman v Superman picked up a total of four Razzie awards, tying with Hillary's America as the biggest "winner" of the event. BvS won in the "Worst Remake, Spin-Off or Sequel" and "Worst Screenplay" categories. Lex Luthor actor Jesse Eisenberg picked up the "Worst Supporting Actor" award, while Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill won in "Worst Screen Combo."

I know that the Razzie Awards are essentially a big joke, but Batman v Superman winning several awards is a b…

Andrew Kreisberg Teases Plans for Proper Four-Way Arrowverse Crossover Next Year

Last fall, The CW aired the epic "Invasion!" crossover with Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and DC's Legends of Tomorrow. However, if one show got the short end of the stick in the event, it was definitely the former. The only crossover on Supergirl was a 30 second scene, which was included in the Flash episode anyways. Kara then appeared on the other shows, but no one from her supporting cast came in.

At a recent press event (via Entertainment Weekly), executive producer Andrew Kreisberg addressed this, confirming that plans are underway for a "true" four-way crossover next fall. "Next year, we’re hoping to do a true four-way crossover. The great thing about our dear friends at the CW and [network president] Mark Pedowitz picking the shows up as early as they did has allowed us to start building the schedules for next season."

Kreisberg then discusses the behind-the-scenes creation of the crossovers, saying that availability of the actors is the hardest…

Cress Williams Set to Play BLACK LIGHTNING for The CW

The Black Lightning pilot from Greg Berlanti, Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil was originally set up at Fox. But after the network passed, the pilot moved over to The CW, joining Berlanti's other DC superhero shows. With production beginning next month, the pilot is currently in the casting phase. Now, we know who's playing the titular hero.

It has been announced (via The Hollywood Reporter) that Hart of Dixie and Prison Break alum Cress Williams is set to play Jefferson Pierce, aka Black Lightning. Pierce hung up the Black Lightning identity years ago, but with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend.

Black Lightning is written by the Akils, who also executive produce alongside Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.

With Black Lightning cast, we should be hearing about the pilot's supporting cast soon. Stay tuned.

NIGHTWING Movie from LEGO BATMAN Director Enters Development at Warner Bros.

Given the presence of an older Batman in the DC Extended Universe, fans have widely expected that Dick Grayson, aka Nightwing and formerly Robin, is somewhere in this universe. There is a Robin suit in the Batcave that honors a fallen comrade, but that Robin is almost definitely Jason Todd.

Now, Nightwing is finally joining the DCEU. Not only that, he's getting his very own movie.

The Hollywood Reporterreveals that Warner Bros. has put a Nightwing movie into development, and Chris McKay, who recently directed the wildly successful The LEGO Batman Movie, is in talks to direct. (McKay shared the news on Twitter, so is it still only in the negotiations phase, or is it now a done deal?) The film serves as his first live action directorial effort. Meanwhile, The Accountant's Bill Dubuque is writing the script.

It's unclear if Nightwing is expected to appear in a DCEU film outside of this movie, or where exactly it fits into the timeline. Though, it would make sense for him to a…

Warner Bros. Confirms that Matt Reeves Will Direct THE BATMAN

After Ben Affleck dropped out of directing DC Films' The Batman, Warner Bros. began to search for a new filmmaker to take over. Early on, Matt Reeves emerged as the frontrunner, and the studio wound up offering the film to him. Then, negotiations reportedly broke down, and it was back to the drawing board.

But now, it's official. Warner Bros. has announced that Reeves will direct and produce The Batman. The film is written by Affleck, Geoff Johns and Chris Terrio. It will also star Joe Manganiello, J.K. Simmons, and Jeremy Irons.

Check out WB's press release below.

Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Matt Reeves (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Cloverfield) has been set to direct The Batman. Reeves will also serve as a producer on the new standalone action adventure centering on one of DC’s most enduringly popular Super Heroes. The announcement was made by Toby Emmerich, President and Chief Content Officer, Warner Bros. Pictures Group.

This ARROW Character is Appearing in the LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Season Finale

The second season finale for DC's Legends of Tomorrow is now entering its last week of production. To celebrate executive producer Marc Guggenheim shared a list of the episode's cast on Twitter. The list features the show's main cast, along with the Legion of Doom and a few other guest stars (J.R.R. Tolkien?!).

But most interestingly, it confirms the presence of a key Arrowverse character in the episode, which is titled "Aruba." Guggenheim previously teased this inclusion in an interview. So, who is it?

The cast lists reveals that Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) will appear in the Legends of Tomorrow finale. This comes after last summer's news that Laurel will be a recurring character throughout all three of the main Arrowverse shows. Details on her role (and which version of the character) are under wraps.

As we all know by now, Earth-1 Laurel/Black Canary was killed off in Arrow's fourth season. She reappeared on the show this season, only to find out tha…

THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE Retains the #1 Spot in its Second Weekend

The LEGO Batman Movie opened last week with a $53 million debut. While it was lower than some predictions, this is still a very good figure for the animated spin-off, and it gave it the #1 spot at the domestic box office. Now, the film is in its second weekend, and it continues to retain its crown.

Via The Hollywood Reporter, LEGO Batman has grossed an estimated $34.2 million over the three day weekend. It is expected to reach $45 million over the four day President's Day weekend. This brings the film past the $100 million mark domestically. This weekend, the film beats off a slew of new films, including Matt Damon-starrer The Great Wall and Fist Fight.

Overseas, LEGO Batman grossed an additional $21.5 million for a total of $72 million. This brings its worldwide total to about $170.8 million, more than double its $80 million production budget. With both this and the highly positive word-of-mouth from both critics and audiences, and LEGO Batman is already a big hit for Warner Bros…
