Rumor: James Marsden Also in Consideration for GREEN LANTERN CORPS’ Hal Jordan?

Yesterday, it was reported that Warner Bros. is considering six actors for the role of Hal Jordan in 2020’s Green Lantern Corps. The actors named on the shortlist are Ryan Reynolds, Tom Cruise, Jake Gyllenhaal, Bradley Cooper, Joel McHale and Armie Hammer. Several of these names sounded surprising; Reynolds already played Jordan in 2011’s disaster Green Lantern, Cruise is in his mid-50s, and so on.

Now, we have another name to add to the list. According to We Got This Covered, the studio is also considering James Marsden for the Hal Jordan role. These discussions have heated up after Marsden’s role in the acclaimed HBO series Westworld. WGTC’s source also reaffirms that Reynolds and Hammer are definitely in consideration, being mentioned “several times.”

Marsden is no stranger to the comic book movie genre. He played Cyclops in four of the X-Men movies, while he played Lois Lane’s fiance in Superman Returns. Personally, I think he’d be a great choice for Hal Jordan. It would give him an opportunity to play a more substantial superhero role, as his Cyclops was rather wasted.

So far, the majority of these actors fall into the 40s age range. This suggests that WB is looking to cast an older actor for Hal Jordan – something that was actually rumored last year.

Again, however, casting for Green Lantern Corps is still in the early days. Just because these actors may be in consideration doesn’t mean one of them will absolutely get it; WB could easily cast someone not on the list. We’ll have to wait and see.

Stay tuned for more as we have it.
