Box Office Updates for SUICIDE SQUAD, Weekend #8

Suicide Squad is now in its eighth weekend of release, and the DC supervillain ensemble continues to impress. The film is still in the top ten movies of the week - a record matched only by Deadpool for this year's comic book movies - and it has maintained strong legs throughout its theatrical run. How did it do this weekend?

According to Box Office Mojo, Suicide Squad grossed an estimated $3.1 million this weekend. This brings its domestic total to $318.1 million, and it's about to surpass 2008's Iron Man at the North American box office.

Overseas, Suicide Squad has currently grossed $413.6 million. Its worldwide total is presently at a whopping $731.7 million. The film is now the fifteenth highest grossing comic book movie of all time worldwide.

Again, these numbers make Suicide Squad an indisputable box office hit for Warner Bros. It's all the more impressive considering lowered expectations, following overly negative reviews from critics a big second weekend drop, a…

BATMAN ARKHAM Is Finished; Rocksteady Says Farewell To The Dark Knight

Batman: Arkham VR is just around the corner; and it will mark the end of Rocksteady Studios' Arkham franchise. Producer Dax Ginn spoke with Eurogamer saying: "We submitted [Batman VR to Sony] last week which was an awesome experience." The game is completely done and will hit store (or PlayStation Network) shelves in a matter of days. It's nice to hear that the game is ready to go, but what's next for the studio?

We really want to know what's their next console or VR experience. Sadly, Ginn seems like he doesn't know more than we do. When Eurogamer posed the question to Ginn he replied saying: "To be honest I don't really know, we're in a very enviable position where we have some time and space to decide what we're doing next," he continues, saying: "We can sit back and think what our dream game would be, and we have Warner Bros.' support to do that." While it's nice to in know that Rocksteady is free to make whatev…

FEATURE: Five DC Funko Pop! Lines We Want to See

Over the years, Funko has produced countless products based on DC Comics properties. The toy company has covered everything from film and television to video games and animation - primarily through the Pop! Vinyl line. This particular line is easily Funko's most recognizable product, and the DC brand has been a consistent presence.

Where could Funko and DC go next, though? There are still a lot of DC films, games and TV shows that haven't gotten the Pop! treatment yet. Below, we've compiled a list of five DC-centric Funko Pop! lines we'd like to see.

Funko has produced Pop! figures for many of DC's current television shows, including Arrow, The Flash, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Gothamand even iZombie. However, Supergirl has yet to get any Funko products - save for that Rock Candy figure in Legion of Collectors' DC TV box. But with the show being a success and a second season premiering next month, now is the time.
Which Supergirl characters should …

First Look at Batman's New Tactical Suit from JUSTICE LEAGUE

As revealed in the movie's set visit reports earlier this year, Batman will be wearing two new costumes in Justice League. The first one, seen in the San Diego Comic-Con group photo, is pretty much a tweaked version of the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice suit, just with some armor plating and a new cowl. The second suit, called the "tactical Batsuit," will be used later on in the movie. Now, we have a first look at this costume.

Justice League director Zack Snyder shared a new photo on Twitter, revealing Ben Affleck in the tactical Batsuit. From what we can see, this costume sports even more armor and a tweaked cowl, along with a pair of goggles. Snyder confirms that filming with this particular Batsuit is now a wrap.

According to the above set reports, the tactical Batsuit will amplify Bruce Wayne's strength, while the new cowl gives new communication methods with Alfred and the rest of the League. Plus, the goggles will assist in piloting.

Greg Berlanti Talks BLACK LIGHTNING Involvement and The CW's Four-Show DC Crossover

Greg Berlanti is one of the busiest producers in the television industry right now. He is essentially the godfather of The CW's "Arrowverse," consisting of DC shows Arrow, The FlashDC's Legends of Tomorrow and the animated series Vixen. Berlanti's Supergirl (set on an alternate Earth) is joining the other shows next season, while another animated show, Freedom Fighters: The Ray, is coming soon.

And that's not all: It was recently announced that Berlanti is also working on Black Lightning, starring the DC Comics hero of the same name. Berlanti is collaborating with husband-wife duo Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil on this project. But unlike Berlanti's other DC shows, Black Lightning is on Fox instead of The CW.

In a lengthy interview with IndieWire, Berlanti discusses his involvement with Black Lightning, as well as what to expect from The CW's shows next season.

Berlanti says that Black Lightning is largely the Akils' vision, and he is there to …

Billy Crudup in Talks to Play Barry Allen's Father in THE FLASH

Casting is well underway for Warner Bros.' The Flash movie. Ezra Miller reprises his role as the Scarlet Speedster, with Kiersey Clemons playing Iris West. Rick Famuyiwa is directing. Additionally, Ray Fisher's Cyborg will return in this film. Now, the studio is looking to fill the role of Flash's father.

According to Variety, actor Billy Crudup is in negotiations to play Barry Allen's dad in The Flash. This would serve as Crudup's second DC movie role; he previously played Dr. Manhattan in Zack Snyder's Watchmen. Additionally, both Crudup and Miller appeared in last year's The Standford Prison Experiment.

In the "Flash: Rebirth" comic by Geoff Johns, Henry Allen is wrongly accused of murdering his wife, Nora, who was actually killed by Professor Zoom. This leads to Henry's imprisonment and, subsequently, his son Barry's determination to enter forensic science. The CW's Flash television series (where Henry is played by John Wesley Shi…

One-Day Theatrical Release for BATMAN: RETURN OF THE CAPED CRUSADERS Announced

This summer, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment teamed up to screen Batman: The Killing Joke in select theaters for a two-night event. Traditionally, DC's animated movies go directly to DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download, and there are no theatrical showings. However, The Killing Joke was a success, grossing $3.8 million in its two nights in cinemas.

Now, another animated DC movie is getting a limited theatrical run. Fathom Events (via IGN) has announced that Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders will be shown at over 700 theaters on Monday, October 10th. There will be three showings: 2:00 PM. 7:30 PM, and 10:00 PM EST. Currently, the movie - based on the classic 1966 television series - will only screen in theaters on this day.

In addition to the film, theatrical showings of Return of the Caped Crusaders will exclusively have a pre-screening introduction, as well as a post-screening featurette called "Those Dastardly Desperados." This featurette explores how Batman's…

New Details on Warner Bros.' "More Inspiring" Approach to DC Films

Warner Bros. officially kicked off the DC Extended Universe this year with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. Both movies were big at the box office, serving as two of the highest grossing films of 2016 so far. However, they were also trashed by critics, and they have been polarizing amongst fans.

Shortly after Batman v Superman was released, WB formally created the DC Films division, to be run by Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. Now, we have plenty of new details on their approach to future DC movies, responding to criticisms, and more in a new Wall Street Journalinterview.

One of the main goals of Johns and Berg is to make these movies and superheroes "more inspiring." A frequent complaint of the DCEU, particularly Batman v Superman, has been on the films' dark tone and arguable lack of optimism. Johns says, "Mistakenly in the past I think the studio has said, 'Oh, DC films are gritty and dark and that’s what makes them different.' That couldn…

BLACK LIGHTNING Television Pilot Lands at Fox

Last week, it was revealed that DC TV mastermind Greg Berlanti is working on a potential series starring Black Lightning. Berlanti is developing the project with husband/wife duo Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil. Now, the project has found a network.

It has been announced (via TV Line) that Fox has picked up the pilot for Black Lightning. This would serve as Fox's third current DC project. Gotham is entering its third season on the network this fall, while Vertigo adaptation Lucifer is going into its second.

Black Lightning will focus on Jefferson Pierce, who retired as the vigilante Black Lightning years ago. But with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, Pierce will once again don the suit.

Stay tuned for more news as we have it.

Joe Manganiello Confirmed to Play Deathstroke in Ben Affleck's BATMAN Movie

Last week, Ben Affleck shared a cryptic video on social media featuring Deathstroke, who is reportedly the main villain of the director's Batman film. Immediately after the video was posted, it was widely speculated by Omega Underground and others that Joe Manganiello is playing Deathstroke. The actor - who was actually rumored to play this role in Suicide Squad last year - is now in London, and he recently followed Zack Snyder on Twitter.

Now, it's happening. DC Films co-chief Geoff Johns confirms to The Wall Street Journalthat Manganiello is playing Deathstroke in Affleck's Batman movie. Johns is co-writing the script for this film with Affleck. He doesn't confirm if Deathstroke is in Justice League, and he's remaining mum on when Batman will hit theaters. However, it is most likely one of DC's untitled 2018/2019 movies.

Manganiello previously played Flash Thompson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man. Since then, he's been linked to a few big comic book movie …

SUICIDE SQUAD Passes $300 Million Domestically; Shia LaBeouf Was Approached for Role

Over the four-day Labor Day weekend, the movie grossed $12.7 million, maintaining its #2 position. The film is now at $300.1 million domestically and $378.1 million. This brings its worldwide total to $678.2 million.

Suicide Squad has now surpassed Man of Steel as the second biggest installment of the DC Extended Universe, both domestically and worldwide. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice maintains the top spot with $330.4 million domestically and $872.7 million worldwide. These are very impressive numbers, and hopefully, we'll hear something official about Suicide Squad 2 soon.

Stay tuned for more box office updates as we have them.

One of the biggest mysteries going into Suicide Squad was Scott Eastwood's role. The actor was rumored/speculated to be playing a slew of fan-favorite DC characters, such as Deathstroke, Steve Trevor and even Dick Grayson. However, he e…

Greg Berlanti's BOOSTER GOLD Movie Won't Take Place in the DC Extended Universe

Earlier this summer, Greg Berlanti confirmed that he was developing a movie starring DC's Booster Gold, with the potential to direct. Berlanti is known for his work on all four of The CW's DC television shows, which make up the Arrowverse. Booster Gold will mark his second DC movie, following 2011's Green Lantern.

Unfortunately, it sounds like Booster Gold will be completely separate from the rest of Warner Bros.' DC films. In an interview with Vulture, Berlanti confirmed that - for the time being at least - Booster Gold will not be set in the DC Extended Universe. "As of right now we have no connective tissue to those worlds. It'd be a separate thing."

As for how the project came to be, Berlanti reveals that it emerged from a now dead television pilot for SyFy starring Booster Gold. Berlanti was developing that project with Andrew Kreisberg. But after talking with Geoff Johns, the two became attached to a film, written by Zack Stentz. The three have no…

DC's Black Lightning to Star in New TV Series From Greg Berlanti, Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil

Over the past couple years, DC Entertainment has significantly increased its live action television portfolio. The company has Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and DC's Legends of Tomorrow on The CW, while Fox is airing Gotham and Lucifer. NBC will premiere Powerless in the midseason. And that's not even counting Vertigo titles like Preacher and iZombie.

Now, yet another DC Comics character is coming to the small screen. According to Deadline, Warner Bros. TV is developing Black Lightning, based on the superhero of the same name. The project is being developed by Greg Berlanti, who is involved with all four of The CW's DC shows. He is working with Being Mary Jane creator Mara Brock Akil and her husband, Salim Akil. The Akils are writing Black Lightning. All three are executive producing along with Sarah Schechter.

While Berlanti's other DC shows are at The CW, Black Lightning is being shopped around at multiple networks. Apparently, the potential series has been in develop…
