Doug Liman Will Direct JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK Movie for Warner Bros.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything on Warner Bros.’ Justice League Dark film, titled Dark Universe. Guillermo del Toro was attached to direct for a few years, but he eventually dropped out. Since then, we’ve heard a slew of director and casting rumors for the DC movie. In the meantime, an animated movie starring the supernatural team was announced for a 2017 release.

Now, Dark Universe is finally moving forward with a new filmmaker.

According to Variety, Doug Liman is set to direct the DC ensemble film. The script is being written by Michael Gilio. The movie was apparently shelved after del Toro became “sidetracked” by other projects, but producer Scott Rubin’s hiring last year resulted in the film being put back into development.

Dark Universe will reportedly play a “major” role in the DC Extended Universe. It stars a team of magic-based characters: John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Zatanna, Deadman and Etrigan the Demon.

Liman previously directed The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow, among other films. He was attached to helm Fox’s Gambit movie, but according to Variety, he has left the X-Men spin-off.

A release date or production start date for Dark Universe has yet to be determined. Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
