ARROW’s Katie Cassidy Will Serve as a Series Regular on All of The CW’s DC Shows

Last season on Arrow, Laurel Lance/Black Canary was killed by Damien Darhk. The decision spawned much outrage on social media, with many criticizing the waste of a beloved character. (I personally was not fond of the idea.) However, despite her death, we’ll still be seeing plenty of Laurel in the Arrowverse.

It was announced at San Diego Comic-Con (via TV Line) that actress Katie Cassidy has signed a new deal, allowing her to be a series regular across all of The CW’s DC shows. These include Arrow, The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Her deal is similar to ones signed by John Barrowman and Wentworth Miller; John Wesley Shipp and Matt Ryan are also rumored for such a deal.

Does this mean Laurel’s death will be undone, and the character will be resurrected? Not necessarily. Legends of Tomorrow – which co-stars sister Sara – deals heavily with time travel and alternate timelines. The Flash deals with that plus the Multiverse, allowing for infinite doppelgangers. (We met Laurel’s doppelganger from Earth-2 last season.) Even Arrow can use flashbacks to bring back characters who are dead in the present.

So, while Laurel may still be dead in the present day timeline of Earth-1, there are a variety of ways to bring her back without undoing the death. And that’s probably what’s going to happen with this new deal.

Stay tuned for more news as we have it.
