Russell Crowe Confirms MAN OF STEEL 2 Was Delayed For BATMAN V SUPERMAN

While Ben Affleck‘s Batman as well as many others characters such as Wonder Woman and The Flash get their own solo outings sometime between now and 2020, Superman is the only major hero in the DCEU that does not currently have a film in development (that we know of). Even though Man of Steel may be the last solo Superman film for quite some time, it appears that there were actually plans to do a follow-up to that film.

While speaking with Digital Spy, Russell Crowe (who of course played Jor-El in the first DCEU film) seemingly confirmed that there were indeed plans to do a Man of Steel sequel before Warner Bros. instead decided to move forward with Batman v Superman. “I think once they made the decision because originally — I could be completely wrong — there was a number of Superman movies. But I think they made the decision to jump past those and go to the idea of Batman and Superman in the same film. So, no, I didn’t have any discussions about that.”

As of right now, another solo Superman film is not in active development, and no release date has been set. There are currently two untitled DCEU films, with one presumably the solo Batman film, leaving the identity of the second untitled film open to speculation. Could it be the Man of Steel sequel, or perhaps that Harley Quinn solo movie? We don’t know yet, but we should expect an announcement soon, perhaps during Comic-Con in July.
