Warner Bros. Tweaking Producer Charles Roven’s Role in DC Films

One of the key players in the DC Extended Universe is Charles Roven, who has produced every DC movie for Warner Bros. since 2005’s Batman Begins. He has also been a member of the DCEU braintrust. However, it looks like his role in the DC movies going forward will be reduced.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Roven will no longer produce certain DC films. Before, he was involved with these movies during day-by-day production. But Warner Bros. reportedly wants to increase the number of ongoing DC productions, and with these movies shooting in various places around the world, Roven can’t be there day-by-day. For example, he will no longer serve as a producer on The Flash and Aquaman.

However, Roven will still be on board with DC movies. It is likely he will become an executive producer for the film slate, and his exact role going forward is still “evolving.” Additionally, Roven will remain on set for Justice League in London – he will be joined by DC Films co-chief Jon Berg in overseeing day-by-day production – and he could continue as a producer on sequels to films he is already producing. He is currently producing Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman, both of which are in post-production.

This is WB’s latest change within the DC franchise, following the polarizing reception to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Recently, the studio formally created DC Films, a studio branch designated for these comic book movies. Jon Berg and Geoff Johns will co-run the arm. However, tweaking Roven’s role doesn’t sound like a drastic change to these movies.
