Stephen Amell Teases New Villain in ARROW Season 5 and Returning to the Show’s Roots

Next week, the season four finale for Arrow airs. But the show will be back for a fifth season in the fall. Not much is known about the next season story-wise; Curtis Holt will be a series regular, a new character is being cast, and the season four finale will have some hints. Now, series star Stephen Amell offers some new teases on what to expect.

Speaking with Variety at The CW’s Upfronts, Amell hints at next season’s big bad. “I’ve heard that our big bad, our villain, is something that you can really only do once you’re in the fifth, sixth or seventh season of a TV show.” He adds that “As far as I know,” the character does not have superpowers. He then admits that he knows more details, but of course, he’s not sharing them.

Moving on to the season as a whole, Amell shares his excitement about returning to the show’s roots. He also adds that Arrow doesn’t have to worry about setting up a new show next season, something that has occurred for the past couple seasons. Supergirl is coming, but we don’t have to introduce a new show next year. In Season 2, it was the introduction of The Flash and crossovers there, and last year there was a lot with Legends of Tomorrow, and we don’t have to do that this year because Supergirl is already established. So I would like to focus on a lot of the stuff that I think Arrow does very well.”

So, if these comments are any indication, it looks like Arrow‘s fifth season will return to a more grounded approach and be less focused on expanding the universe. Hopefully, the season will be an improvement over the last two years, which have been very hit-and-miss.
