DC TV News Bits: CBS Explains SUPERGIRL’s Move to The CW, Stephen Amell Talks ARROW Crossover, Marc Guggenheim Talks LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Season 2 and Jonah Hex

Last week, it was confirmed that Supergirl will switch from CBS to The CW for its second season. Today, CBS held a press conference at Upfronts (via Variety), and network president Glenn Geller weighed in on this decision.

Geller called Supergirl‘s move to The CW a “win-win” for everyone, saying that that network – co-owned by CBS and Warner Bros. – is the right home. As for whether CBS would have renewed Supergirl for Season 2 if the CW deal fell through, Geller simply says, “Who’s to say if we hadn’t made that deal that we wouldn’t have picked it up.” Additionally, CBS would “absolutely” consider another superhero show, if it ever came up.

CBS was reportedly hesitant to renew Supergirl, due to the hefty budgets for each episode and a decline in ratings. But the show’s move to The CW should be beneficial for everybody.

Of course, The CW is home to a few other DC television shows, including Arrow, which launched a shared universe consisting of The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (among others). While Supergirl is in a separate Earth from the other shows – for now – there’s still plenty of crossover potential, as shown in the Flash crossover episode.

Arrow star Stephen Amell agrees. Speaking with Loaded, the actor very much expects that he will meet Kara Zor-El at some point. “Do bears you-know-what in the woods? I think that it’s highly likely that if you have four DC superhero properties on one network, that is an opportunity that may not exist again and certainly hasn’t ever existed in the history of television. I would expect that we would do something.”

And finally, we have some new hints for Legends of Tomorrow‘s second season. The first season finale airs tomorrow night, and it is expected to give a tease on what to expect next year.

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim spoke with Comic Book about exploring the DC Universe in the show. “We love the idea that the show is a gateway to the whole of the DC Universe, and we have an actual opportunity to go to every corner of the DC Universe, any time or any place that the story makes sense.”

Guggenheim then says that the show’s creative crew have a bucket list of characters that they want to adapt, and one of them was Jonah Hex. He also reveals that they are “talking about” doing another episode with that character. As for Season 2, he says, “I will say that you’ll see even more DC characters in Season Two. By a large margin.” Very interesting.
