First Images and Plot Details for THE LEGO BATMAN Movie Released Ahead of Trailer Debut

On Wednesday, the teaser trailer for The LEGO Batman Movie will be released. The film is a spinoff of The LEGO Movie, starring Will Arnett’s Dark Knight and expanding his world. Characters such as Robin, Joker and Batgirl are all set to appear. And now, while we wait for the trailer, we have a bunch of first-look images.

Thanks to USA Today, we have the following new stills for The LEGO Batman Movie, as well as new plot details and interviews with Arnett and director Chris McKay. On spinning off LEGO Batman into his own movie, McKay says, “We thought if we can tell a well-rounded, funny story that’s action-packed, we can build a big movie around this character. This is the movie we would want to see.” Meanwhile, Arnett is excited about exploring the Batcave.

In The LEGO Batman Movie, Batman, whose sole relationship is with his butler Alfred, is introduced to Dick Grayson, aka Robin, and Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl. We also get a good look at the Batcave, Batsuits and other toys. McKay compares the story to “…making About a Boy as directed by Michael Mann.” Additionally, the film will include many female characters; a contrast to the typical “guy-centric” Batman story. For example, Mariah Carey is voicing the mayor of Gotham City.

Also, a “league” of superhero friends will make appearances in The LEGO Batman Movie. Regarding this, McKay says, “We’re nothing but exhaustive about the cameos and other characters that try to enter Batman’s life.” Any predictions on which cameos we’ll see?
