Mera Set to Make Cinematic Debut in JUSTICE LEAGUE: PART ONE?

With pre-production for Justice League: Part One beginning in a couple of months, casting news is heating up. Today, Heroic Hollywood is reporting that Mera (aka “The Queen of Atlantis”) will make her cinematic debut in the film due out just over two years from now; November 17, 2017.
This addition would mean Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) wouldn’t be the only heroine in the superhero team-up film featuring the biggest heroes from DC Comics. If she, indeed, is making an appearance in the first part (and probably second part) of the two-part blockbuster, she would likely be a love interest for Jason Momoa‘s Aquaman, like she was in the comics. Whether their relationship kicks off from the get-go or not is another story.
Aside from being Aquaman’s true love, Mera is described as being the “Khaleesi (who Emilia Clarke plays on Game of Thrones) of the sea”; minus the dragons, of course. In the comics, Mera and Aquaman are a married couple that represent Atlantis’ feuding factions, where their marriage was a promise of a united Atlantis. So, as you can see, like Game of Thrones, the Aquaman comics have quite a bit of political intrigue in them, so comparisons between her and Khaleesi don’t sound too far off. Not to mention, Momoa just so happened to play Khaleesi’s lover, Drogo.
While it’s unclear how big of a role the Queen of Atlantis will have in the beginning stages of DC’s Extended (Cinematic) Universeit’s certainly nice to see that there’ll be more than one female hero making an appearance. Now, we’ll have to wait and find out who’ll play her. Who would you like to see play her?
Justice League: Part One will be directed by Zack Snyder, with Henry Cavill (Superman), Ben Affleck (Batman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), and Christina Wren (Carrie Farris) starring alongside the aforementioned Gadot and Momoa.
Stay tuned for more news ‘Justice League’ news as we have it.
