SUPERGIRL Casts TRUE BLOOD Alum as Livewire; New Details on Red Tornado’s Role

It was revealed at Comic-Con last month that CBS’ Supergirl series will feature fan-favorite Superman villain Livewire. And now, that role has been cast. According to Variety, True Blood actress Brit Morgan is set to play Leslie Willis, aka Livewire. She will guest star in an unspecified episode this season.

In Supergirl, Willis is described as “a confident, abrasive and funny shock-jock who works for CatCo Media, the conglomerate owned by Cat Grant. When an accident makes her as dangerous and shocking as her words, Supergirl must stop her.” This will mark Livewire’s second live action appearance, following a role on Smallville.

Additionally, Variety spoke with executive producers Greg Berlati and Andrew Kreisberg about introducing another popular DC character, Red Tornado. Supergirl will mark the hero’s live action debut. Berlanti reveals that Red Tornado will be associated with General Sam Lane, who is bringing his grudge against Superman – and now Supergirl – to National City. Meanwhile, Kreisberg confirms that Red Tornado’s creator in the comics, T.O. Morrow, will also appear in the CBS series.

Kreisberg goes on to explain the process of introducing various DC Universe characters on Supergirl, even if they’re not traditionally affiliated with Supergirl or Superman. “On Arrow and Flash we’ve had Batman villains and Superman villains and people who weren’t necessarily associated with those characters, and we’re getting to continue that tradition on Supergirl. We’re not just having a handful of Superman’s villains on there — it has other DC Comics characters and some big surprises coming the audience’s way.”
