UPDATE: Matt Ryan Set to Return as CONSTANTINE on ARROW Season Four

Many fans were disappointed by NBC’s decision to cancel Constantine. Since then, there have been many suggestions on where to take the series next if it were to be continued. A popular one was to have Matt Ryan’s John Constantine appear on Arrow or one of its two spin-off shows, The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. All three of these shows are stationed at The CW.

Now, Constantine lives indeed. The CW announced today at its Television Critics Association panel that Matt Ryan will reprise his role as John Constantine for an episode of Arrow this season. While the episode’s plot is unknown, CW president Mark Pedowitz called it a “great, one-shot episode.” Also, now that NBC has cancelled Constantine, this particular version of the character is now free to use on Arrow, since Warner Bros. produces every single DC show.

This is surely exciting news for Constantine fans. Stay tuned for more news as we have it. Arrow returns to The CW on October 7th.

UPDATE: The CW (via GreenArrowTV) has now offered more details on Constantine’s return on Arrow. He will guest star in episode five of season four, titled “Haunted.” The network’s official description reads, “John Constantine is a weather worn exorcist and expert on the supernatural and the occult. He is a detective, magician, and a hunter of demons, and will provide critical support to Oliver (Stephen Amell) when arrows aren’t enough.”

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim then comments on bringing Matt Ryan back to play John Constantine, and how the character ties into the introduction of magic into the show this season. “We are thrilled to have Matt Ryan reprise the role of John Constantine on an upcoming episode of Arrow. Matt is an incredibly talented actor and his portrayal of this beloved character was always something we admired. The introduction of magic and mysticism on the show this season has provided a truly organic opportunity for us to bring John Constantine to Arrow and the CW’s DC universe. It will be a well-deserved tip of the hat to all the Constantine fans who were so incredibly supportive of that series.”
