Former Superman Brandon Routh Cast As The Atom/Ray Palmer For ARROW Season 3

Another casting announcement has been made for the third season of Arrow, and this one is easily the most exciting yet. According to TV Line, Brandon Routh – best known for playing the Man of Steel in 2006’s Superman Returns – is set to play none other than Ray Palmer, aka The Atom, in a recurring role. Arrow‘s version of the DC superhero is described as, “An unparalleled scientist and inventor, Ray will play an unexpected role in the lives of Oliver and (rumored love interest) Felicity as the new owner of Queen Consolidated. Palmer’s plans for Queen Consolidated’s Applied Sciences Division will be shrouded in mystery.” Routh is said to be signed on for fourteen episodes of the season.

Atom is the second key Justice League member to be introduced on Arrow, following Barry Allen’s guest star appearances last season. The CW series also marks Atom’s third live action appearance, following an installment of Legends of the Superheroes and the failed television pilot Justice League of America. Despite Superman Returns‘ underperformance, it’s great to see Routh getting another shot at playing a DC character. And it’s always exciting to see the DC Universe expand in this series and The Flash spin-off. Arrow returns to The CW October 8th.
