First Look At Aquaman In JUSTICE LEAGUE: THRONE OF ATLANTIS; Cast And Plot Details Unveiled

It was recently confirmed that DC’s first animated movie of 2015 will be Justice League: Throne of Atlantis. A follow-up to this year’s War, this film adapts the acclaimed “Throne of Atlantis” New 52 arc. Now, we have more details on the movie, courtesy of TV Guide. In addition to the image above giving us our first look at Aquaman, we have new plot specs for Throne of Atlantis. “Throne of Atlantis … adapts a comic arc that pits the undersea nation of Atlantis against the surface world. Unlike the comic, the movie will focus on how young Arthur Curry discovers his aquatic heritage. Raised by his human father, when the movie begins he doesn’t know that he is the heir to the throne of the watery kingdom.”

Producer James Tucker weighs in on what to expect from Arthur Curry early on in the film. “”We meet him at a low point in his life. He’s a little bit lost. His father has died and he’s always been an outsider, so the one person who had his back is now gone. When that Atlanteans instigate incidents to escalate a war with the surface world, he doesn’t yet know who he is. As he discovers his true history he’s going to have a lot of choices to make. It’s definitely about him finding his own path.” He then had this to say about making the character more likable to the general audience. “A lot of times with Aquaman people just focus on his powers and their opinion of them as being lame — which I don’t believe — and that’s all they think of him. Hopefully we’ve made him a person in people’s eyes first. And then the powers and the telepathy with fish and all that can be put in perspective.”

Additionally, TV Guide has provided the voice cast for Throne of Atlantis. Matt Lanter will voice Aquaman, with Sumalee Montano – Katana on the Beware the Batman animated series – will play future queen Mera. And as previously reported, Sam Witwer will play Aquaman’s villainous brother, Orm. Justice League: War cast members Jason O’Mara (Batman), Christopher Gorham (The Flash), Shemar Moore (Cyborg) and Sean Astin (Shazam) will reprise their roles in the sequel. New additions include Jerry O’Connell as Superman and Rosario Dawson as Wonder Woman, while Nathan Fillion reprises his role once more as Green Lantern. Additionally, character designer Phil Bourassa returns for this project.

Justice League: Throne of Atlantis is set to hit DVD and Blu-Ray in early 2015. An official announcement regarding this and other animated films from DC is expected at next week’s San Diego Comic-Con, which will also see the world premiere of Batman: Assault on Arkham.
