BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN Producer Talks Wonder Woman And Ben Affleck’s Casting

After working with Zack Snyder on 300, Watchmen and Man of Steel, Wesley Coller will also be involved with the director’s next film, Batman vs. Superman. In an interview with mLive, the producer discusses the controversial casting of Ben Affleck as Batman, reaffirming that the actor-director is perfect for Snyder’s take on the character. “Because we’ve historically done fan favorite fare – ‘Watchmen,’ we remade ‘Dawn of the Dead’ … – I’ve developed a pretty good perspective on this. “Anything you do that’s culturally significant, or any time you deal with an iconic character or story, you’re going to hear responses from every possible perspective. So nothing surprises me anymore. If anything, that gauges the relevance of a property or character, and it’s invigorating to know people care that much. It inspires you to make the coolest version of the movie that you can. Ben is the perfect fit for Zack’s vision for this story.”

Coller also expresses his enthusiasm for Wonder Woman finally making her big screen debut in the movie, as his young daughter loves the character. “(My daughter’s) favorite book is this little Wonder Woman flip book. It has the lasso, the invisible plane, the bracelets – every page has an image she’s just in awe with. And something that’s become a reality, being a dad with a new daughter, is that I have a special place in my heart for the idea of a strong, empowered female superhero being out there.” Fans have been begging for a Wonder Woman movie to be made, and that possibility seems to increase with her presence in Batman vs. Superman. However, Coller says that the crew isn’t looking that far ahead into the future right now. “We’re super excited to have her in the film, it will be a ton of fun, but at the same time, we’ve got to stay focused on the film we’re working on now.”

Batman vs. Superman (not the final title) is scheduled to hit theaters July 17th, 2015. The follow-up to Man of Steel, the next installment in the DC Cinematic Universe stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Diane Lane, and Laurence Fishburne, with Jason Momoa in talks to join. Zack Snyder directs from a script by David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio.
